One of the classiest is this beautiful 300 CE, the coupe version of the W124 E-Class. Shorter than its saloon siblings, under the sleek skin there's a superb chassis and a smooth engine that delivers surprisingly spirited performance when asked to do so. Suspension is a combination of coil springs and telescopic shocks at the front that work in tandem with a multi-link independent rear set-up that give the 300 CE a solid foundation for responsive handling. The result is a supreme feeling of confidence in the road holding. Powerful disc brakes slow the coupe with ease, and ABS adds to the cars braking prowess. Under the imposing bonnet lies a silky smooth straight six-cylinder engine. With fuel-injection delivering the fuel, the 3. 0-litre six puts out 135 kW at 5700 revs with peak torque of 260 Nm at just 4400 revs. Mercedes only offered a smooth shifting four-speed auto transmission in the 300 CE. Under normal acceleration it starts off in second gear, but if you bury your right foot into the carpet it comes to life in a most unexpected way. When stirred the 300 CE is quite a performer. It takes around eight seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 62mph, and top speed is nearly 140mph. It's had just three private owners from new. Registered on 09/ 03/ 1989 it was supplied by Snowdon Motor Co. Mercedes-Benz in Paignton to Mr Soanes in Torquay, the second keeper was Mr Chambers of Newton Abbot, acquired it on 28/ 07/ 1990. It was then purchased by a local chap to us in Coal Aston, from Lancaster Mercedes-Benz in Sheffield (who's plates it still wears) on 04/ 12/ 1991 - that's correct he owned it for 28 years! It only came to us when he stopped driving. It is in amazing condition and benefits from full Mercedes-Benz service history (PDI and stamps at 1k, 6k, 12k, 16k, 25k, 31k, 37k , 56k, 60k, 65k). Supplied complete with its original book pack, tools etc. Absolutely unrepeatable!
