The Citroën SM alone represents the dream of an era when automotive elegance and high performance went hand in hand. Let us not forget that in the early 1970s, speed limits did not exist on the French road network. The SM was born at a time when speed was a selling point and gasoline was cheap. Unveiled at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show, this French-style "Super Car" is a success with a line designed by Robert Opron. It is ahead of its time both in terms of technology and its futuristic line.
The SM presented here is a fabulous car, both in its presentation and in its history. There is no shortage of superlatives about it: Gold Leaf Color AC 319, all the options including air conditioning, electronic injection... and an owner from 1973 to 2013! It was purchased new by Mr. Résal, test pilot for Dassault aircraft. He took part in the first in-flight refuelling tests aboard a Vulture, before being entrusted with the management of EPNER from 1960 to 1962. Jérôme Résal joined Dassault, and was appointed chief pilot at Bordeaux-Mérignac, where he flew 1, 000 hours on Mirage IV before becoming one of the leading specialists in the entire Mystère-Falcon business aircraft range. He flew as a test pilot until the age of 60, then retired in 1986. He died on February 12, 2013 in Bordeaux and kept the SM until the end of his life. He will maintain his car with very particular care. It was stopped in 1995 when the meter reads just over 73, 000 km. When he dies, the car will be put up for sale by his family and then acquired by Mr. and Mrs. R. The engine will be overhauled, the chain tensioners revised and the car ready to go back on the road in 2017. It is today in its original “concours" state that we discover this SM. Inside the glove box is a moving logbook in which the pilot recorded all his trips, fuel consumption averages and the maintenance costs of his SM. During the test, the meter will pass the 75, 000 km mark! A moment of emotion. The car works perfectly well, the engine is powerful and takes its revs without failure, the brakes works efficiently. The car was never restored or dismantled simply because it was carefully maintained, and this has an impact on driving. The interior is in perfect and original condition. This is a chance to acquire such a beautiful SM with a clear history.
