Description
An opportunity to own a very rare 90's hot hatch. I don't want to sell this car as I know there is probably zero chance of getting another that's as original and as well maintained but a change in job and a lack of space forces me to sell it as I have 3 other cars on the driveway.
This is a totally standard and un-abused GSI 16v with 4 mature owners from new and full history. There are only approx. 30 of these left taxed on the UK roads and around 100 on SORN so they are very very hard to come by now, most had fallen into the hands of boy racers and been badly modified or have rotted away by now.
Engine
222k but don't be put off by the miles as it has every receipt and history from new as the photos show, nothing has been spared on maintenance over the years and it shows in how the car drives. the clutch is nice, gearbox smooth, rear brakes have been replaced and new brake pipes too for MOT. It also has the standard square exhaust. The car drives very well which is testament to how its been treated over the years and been given an easy life, it certainly doesnt feel its age and is very comfortable and easy to drive, the last owner used it as a daily driver for may years. Last serviced in November, cam belt done in 2018.
Chassis and Floor
I have recently put a lot of money and work put into the car to rectify any rust/ rot in the floor and chassis. When I bought it I striped the body kit off, arch trims, bumpers and it was checked from front to back for rot (which these do suffer from). It was then left into a restoration company who cut out all of the bad metal and welded in new steel, seam sealed, and undersealed with berner stone chip and Upol gravitex, the car is now solid from front to back.
It had:
* A new inner boot/ filler neck panel
* Rear drivers side lower inner arch and chassis leg repair
* New front drivers side jacking point and part of chassis leg replaced
* Repairs to both sill areas.
Body
The cars flame red paint has been machine polished using meguairs products and its shines up very well. The wheel arches were also given a coat of zinc paint and gravitex while the trim was off to prolong their life, they are solid with no rust. Original wheels and 4 firestone tyres with loads of tread.
Interior
The interior is excellent, it has all of the original features, seats are very good with some minor wear to drivers bolster but no rips, the original mats are like new as is the gear knob and leather surround, door cards etc excellent and the sun roof and electric windows work perfectly.
Points to note
I wouldn't say these are bad points as they don't detract from the overall car.
Central radio LCD display sometimes works sometimes not, it has never bothered me
The odd stone chip or bubble on the paint but no rot.
EML light flashes now and again but goes off again next time the car is started. It has been scanned
by Vauxhall several times but no code comes up and the car drives perfectly normal so it doesnt bother me. EGR has also been changed as a precaution
So there you have it a very rare nostalgic GSI corsa in great shape. Please don't expect a concourse car as it is 25 year old after all but it certainly wouldn't look out of place at a show. Try and find another as original. It also qualifies for classic insurance at around £120 a year.
Full years MOT
The car is located in Belfast but it can either be delivered by a transport company for a fee or I can pick up buyers from the airport or ferry port
