1972 MERCEDES-BENZ 350SL R107
Originally registered to Mappin and Webb (jewellers in Regent Street, London) in January 1971 this stunning r107 remained in their ownership for the first 12 years before passing to a gentleman in Bromley, Kent. The second owner then enjoyed the car for a further 10 years before passing to its final keeper in 1994. He has enjoyed the car for the last 25 years and lavished an absolute fortune on it in the process. The vehicle comes complete with a history folder confirming its no expense spared upkeep. The previous owner has since passed away and unfortunately didn’t get chance to witness his pride and joy fully finished, we finished the vehicle last year and sold it to its last owner, it has barely been used so we are delighted to have it back in stock with us once again
The paintwork is an amazingly rich metallic red called “Mercedes-Benz Bernsteinrot” it compliments the two tone tan interior perfectly.
The usual problematic bulkhead is in super condition with no signs of rot/ corrosion. There is photographic evidence available of some excellent metalwork that the car has had done as part of its restoration: front inner and outer wings were replaced as were the front sill closing panels.
The paintwork is an absolute credit to the painter with excellent shutlines and no evidence of any bad filler work. The sides of the car are the straightest I have ever seen!
The underside of the vehicle is equally as impressive as the bodywork, which is what really sets this car apart from others at similar (and in many cases more expensive) money. All the floorpans and chassis have been tastefully waxoyled as well as the wheel arches. Both axles and suspension arms and any removable component that could be has been powder coated giving a real ‘factory fresh’ look underneath. In addition to this the braking system has been fully overhauled with genuine Mercedes Benz callipers all round, new brake lines, discs and pads all round.
The car comes with its factory hardtop as well as a soft top that was replaced a number of years ago but remains in excellent condition as does the plastic rear window.
All the carpets have just been changed throughout including the boot carpets and the audio system upgraded to a more modern item with usb and ipod/ phone capability.
The vehicle will be supplied with a full service completed including air/ fuel and oil filter as well as fresh spark plugs too.
There is a cherished registration number “404ktt” this has been valued at £2000 and is included in the sale!
It is now MOT and road tax exempt due to being over 40 years old.
