1971 Jaguar XJ6 SWB Series 1 4. 2 litre automatic. Ascot Fawn with red leather interior.
This car has been stored since 1990 and is for sale due to loss of garage space. I am not an expert in the motor trade and the car is offered for sale as seen and as a restoration project; it must be trailered away. It is complete, almost entirely original and the engine turns over, but the car is not road worthy.
It has a complete and original interior that generally would be suitable for light sympathetic cleaning/ restoration. The headlining is smooth and fully adhered with the exception of a handful of coin-sized droops. There is a Henly’s dealership badge on the transmission tunnel console and the car retains its factory steering wheel. The interior is one of the car’s best features.
The body work will require some welding in isolated areas. There is surface rust damage to the edges of panels including to front wings, bonnet, all wheel arches and door bottoms; there are also various isolated spots of surface rust on all panels. Rubber surrounds to front and rear windscreens require replacement and there is minor leakage around both windscreens under direct hosing. Otherwise the external paintwork is good and I believe it would polish up well.
All mechanical systems need full reconditioning. The engine turns but it has one sheared spark plug that I have tried to remove unsuccessfully.
It has four Dunlop SP Sport ER70 VR15 tyres with little wear plus a worn one as a spare. The spare has ‘Formula 70’ moulded into its wall. One of the unworn tyres has a slow puncture and they are all more than 30 years old. The car has been stored on stands to avoid loading the tyre walls.
Chromework is pitted but shines up to good effect. It has a series 2 boot lid including series 2 chromework; although there is a red series 1 bootlid with the correct trim that is included in the sale if required. There is also a silver rear drivers side corner valence panel that is included in the sale if required.
The car is located in Wellingborough in Northamptonshire and all inspections are welcomed; I will put the car on stands to provide access to the underside. I am not an expert in the motor trade and the car will be sold as seen and as a restoration project.
