Description

SORRY THE CAR IS SOLD

Here for sale is my 1967 De Luxe 1500cc Manual 1 year only Beetle for a restoration project. I’m the 7th owner over 52 years, I purchased the car in 2006 and used it for a few years up to 2011, when it failed an M. O. T. At this point I decided to carry out a restoration... however children arrived and I only started stripping it down last year, I have reached a sad realisation that I think there’s a little too much work for me.

The 1967 1500 has become very desirable and if you look around you’ll see they sell from £10k upwards with Right hand drive not coming up very often.

It has a great registration number PPJ 99E, recently valued online at £600+ obviously this figure is an estimate.

The car is currently SORN and has a V5 in my name, also in the cars file is the VW Birth Certificate (issued by VW Museum) showing this a matching numbers car.
There are some old MOT’s (showing mileage history, also some MOT’s can be viewed on the VOSA website), receipts for work carried out before my ownership and insurance valuation certificates from 2006-2011.

The first photo shows how she looked as my wedding car in 2009, we’ll be sad to see the car go, but it deserves to be saved.

It has 108001 miles on the clock (odometer showing 08001).

This car is a great colour slightly creamy off white, the original colour is L282 Lotos White.

The car is pretty well complete, as you can see in the pictures all the parts have been carefully stored.

Bodywork:
It is fairly solid but as you can see from the photos quite a bit of metal work is required to prepare for respraying. The body is very close to been removed from the chassis. Drivers door has a hole you can see in the pictures. The rear section under the back seat and around the heater ducts have had historic repairs and patching around the each inner wing. Bonnet is rusty and has been patched in the past, the boot is in good condition.

Interior:
Considering the age the interior is ok, the headlining has been stripped and dumped. The seats, visors, handles, interior lights etc are present. A few of the dashboard switches and the handbrake handle have been swapped for aluminium billet type.

Engine:
The engine has all its components and is just missing a couple of pieces of tinware. It hasn’t run for over 2 years but up until then ran nicely. The engine turns over easily with a spanner.

Tyres:
4 x Firestone tyres, 2 fitted on front wheels (1 on spare wheel, 1 ready to fit).
2 x oversized modern tyres on the rear wheels.

Electrics:
The wiring loom had been converted to 12v and an alarm fitted in the late 90’s, ideally the loom could be changed as it’s been spliced into over time, but it is complete and was all working on removal. The loom is roughly labelled By me on removal.
All the gauges, switches, speedo, lights etc. were working on removal. The original radio isn’t functioning but present.

Fuel tank:
Present and looks solid, fuel level float is working and present.

Suspension:
A new lowered front beam, dampers and ball joints installed around 2007 for the MOT. The rest is original and the rear is in need of attention.

Brakes:
Discs to the front wheels 1st year to have discs.

Rubbers:
The window rubbers we’re past saving and have been dumped.

Glass:
All glass is present some is lightly scratched as you would expect, the rear screen is heated.

Chrome:
The bumpers have been re-chromed and look good with no rust, the chrome trims for the window rubbers and bodywork are in good condition and all present.

I have 3 videos and lots of photos I can WhatsApp these if you want a closer look, alternatively happy for any serious interested parties to view in person.

Buyer collects once funds cleared, payment will have to be made in 5 working days. I can help load up when you come to collect it, it won’t be boxed as you will want to have a look as you load the parts. I will expect the vehicle to be collected within 14 days.

Thanks for looking at my post and I hope you can save this cool Type 1!
