A trully stunning example 1955 Morris Minor Tourer Convertible. It’s a factory-built example and has had only 2 previous owners, the first from 1955 until 2013.

The car has had a comprehensive restoration in recent years but is still a very original, un-messed with car . These are one of Britain’s favourite cars – charming looks, combined with simple mechanicals, means that the Moggy was a big hit for almost two decades. It’s cheap to insure for everyone (including youngsters – the Morris Minor Owners Club will be able to supply details for a cheap insurance scheme)Bodily, the car is in really fine fettle. The Smoke Grey (really it’s blue…!) paintwork is fantastic, thanks to a top-quality respray a few years ago. The finish is fantastic, with reflections and a deep sheen. The external panelwork is quite simply phenomenal, wings and doors are all nice and solid (all steel), and spot-welds are still visible where they should be – no filler here! Door and wing bottoms are excellent and there is no bubbling around the rear wing beading, etc. The panel gaps are excellent, the doors shut with a nice ‘clunk’, and the boot lid is excellent (spot welds still visible on the bottom lip!). Structurally the car is absolutely spot on. When it was restored, the shell was put on a rotisserie and all old underseal etc removed, before being reapplied. The vast majority is original – boot floor, inner wings, floors, sills etc all appear to be the originals and are in very good order indeed. One front chassis leg has been replaced due to a leaky brake master cylinder causing some perforation, but the whole leg has been replaced rather than the usual patches. You can see in the extra photos that it’s simply excellent! It’s clearly never been used in the rain, either – it’s nice and clean under there! It’s nice to see a car which does not have ‘patchwork quilt’ repairs and MOT bodges and retains the vast majority of its originality. Original spot welds are visible all over the car – from the rear valence, to the windscreen gutters, to the rear inner wings and beyond. The interior is really clean and tidy too, and is in excellent order. The original seats and covers are still present, and in excellent order. New carpets have been fitted throughout and the door cards have been remanufactured to a really good standard. The dashboard is also very good indeed, and looks to be in original paint. The original dealer plaque is still attached to the dashboard (Glovers of Ripon). The soft-top hood has been professionally replaced and fits very well, and the frame has been repainted. Mechanically, the original 803cc A Series engine starts and runs very healthily indeed. A twin H1SU carburettor upgrade has been fitted, probably in the 1960s, complete with Alexander inlet manifolds. Very rare indeed. The brakes (along with the handbrake) work fine – the brake master cylinder, and all associated pipework and wheel cylinders have been replaced. The gearbox does not jump out of gear or whine badly, and nor does the back axle It rides very well and there are no nasty bumps or rattles like you often get with unkempt examples The engine bay is clean and tidy, and still in its original paint (even a service reminder sticker for 1960 remains!). Obviously it’s not concourse show-standard under there but to me, the originality really makes it. The list for the restoration goes on and on, all new window rubbers, quarterlight seals, rechromed bumpers, five new tyres, new clutch, all new engine gasket kit, decoke, new mirrors… it’s simply endless! Of course, the car is both MOT and tax exempt. Also included are various workshop manuals along with lots of paperwork from the restoration, photographs of the works carried out, and a copy of an old log book with the original owner’s details – allegedly he was the owner of a Ford dealership in the North East. The car oozes ‘classic charm’ and doesn’t feel like a nasty over-restored show pony. It’s nice to see one which still has working trafficators, too. Viewing is highly recommended to fully appreciate just how good this car is. I may accept another classic car in PX and can also assist with delivery if needed.
