1972 Honda CL175 Scrambler
Probably one of the most fun bikes I have ever ridden; this is a really super example of the very rare Honda CL175 Scrambler in lovely original condition.
What is most interesting, is that the CL175 was never imported into the UK and then latterly only the later and larger engined CL’s were imported.
This bike though, is a UK bike from new; first registered in the UK on the 16th February 1972. After investigation, it turns out that three CL175’s were brought into the country by Honda UK for the 1972 International Motor Cycle Show, held at Earls Court from the 8th - 18th November 1972. It is thought that this bike was one of the three Earls Court Show bikes and a little more investigation should be able to confirm this.
Sold between 1968 and 1973 they were supplied in three colours; Metallic Silver, Candy Blue and this example in Candy Orange. The mileage is showing as 12, 783 miles, though I cannot confirm this, looking at the condition of the bike I suspect that it is correct.
Having been off of the road for a number of years, she was re-commissioned in late 2018 and had much done to her, including:
Rear wheel re-built and re-chromed, new sprockets, and cush drive, new Gel Mat battery, new indicators and stalks, new pattern front and rear brake shoes, new kickstart shaft, new clutch springs, carbs cleaned and re-built, front brake cable, clutch cable, switch units (second hand), two new tyres, seat re-covered and the wiring loom tidied.
This ‘ Scrambler’ has a nice mellow patina about it and delivers more smiles per miles than anything I have ridden in a very long time, drawing a crowd wherever it goes. It starts on the button and is a joy to ride with a top speed of 80mph, as she weighs under 285lbs! She is lovely to ride, pulling well through the gears and stops well and is just great fun to ride.
She comes with a folder of paperwork, including the V5 in my name and two keys.
Amazing little bike at just £2, 695
