1971 Gilbern Invader MkII with Distinguished Competition History
Gilbern Sports Cars was founded in 1959 and until 1973 was to produce limited runs of stylish sports coupes using BMC and Ford components. Their final offering was the 'Invader' which was introduced in July 1969 and based largely on the previous model - The Genie but boasting improved brakes and a stronger chassis. The Ford V6 3 litre engine was retained, however the front suspension on the Invader was now of the MGC type.
This new model was a move further upmarket and featured electric windows and walnut veneer trim in the cabin. From 1970 it was available as a complete car as well as in kit form and a choice of automatic or manual/ overdrive transmission were available. Between 1969 and 1973 just 603 Invaders were built and it is now quite a rare motor car.
This car has a long and distinguished competition history in the hands of Don Williams and Brian Gent.
Specification includes 3. 1 litre, big valve, dry sump, triple carb V6 engine, close ratio gearbox, L/ S diff, uprated front antiroll bar, additional rear antiroll bar. New Toyo R888 road legal competition tyres, new safety harnesses and extinguisher.
