Welcome to the sale of this 1963 Morris Minor 1000 Tourer - an original MAT code convertible. With a 1098cc engine and 3 previous owners this is a nice solid car that can be used as is or cosmetically improved should you wish. In its favour is that it is presentable as is and any welding needed over the years has been carried out as required. The sills are solid, as is the cross member, doors, bottom of rear wings, A pillars, boot floor, inner wings and everywhere else these models usually rust. It has covered less than 100 miles in the last 10 years!
The mechanics are spot on. It drives very well with a quiet 1098cc and the gearbox does not jump out of gear. All the lights etc are working. The brakes are good for an original moggie without any additional servo or assistance. If you was looking to drive this everyday there are numerous upgrades available. With this example you have a very solid base to start from so any money invested will add to it value. A mint one of these is 12k+!
The interior looks all original. The red and cream vinyl is presentable but there is some wear and tear on the drivers seat. The door cards and seat tops have a little fading but this is an original example of a nearly 60 year old car. The hood is in good order - there is one tear as per pics about 3 inches long. The rear screen is not the best and has a crack in it. A new hood can be bought for less than £300 but we think most people would only be driving this car with the hood down and we are keen for the new owner to decide how to proceed with the car - it is perfectly usable as is.
The last owner, who owned the car since 1984 always used the same garage and it was that garage which bough the car from the elderly gent when he gave up driving. They have used the car through the last summer. In that time it has had an oil change, plugs, a new coil, ht leads etc as needed to get it mechanically very sound and reliable. It start on the pull button very well and after a little manual choke settles down well. The exhaust has that classic moggie rasp!
As stated there is no structural rust we can find and all the panels look straight. There are no signs of filler and all the wings are steel. The floors and cross member are very good (as per pics) and although all the usual places have been welded it has been done to a good standard.
The paint work - finished in Rose Taupe from new - has seen better days. Although very solid the finish looks like it has suffered from poor storage - perhaps a non waterproof car cover has been used? As per pics this is the main area this car could be improved on. However, we rather like the 'survivor' look and it makes a nice change at a car show to see something with 'character'. Of course, you could have a respray carried out which for around a £2500 investment would easily add that to this cars value.
Overall a very solid, running and driving, rare factory convertible with only 3 previous owners. We have no service history with the car (remember the old school cash in hand servicing days?) but the MOT history online shows that the mileage is low and that remedial work has been done as required - please take a look online and pop in the reg number to see the history. It is now registered as MOT exempt.
This car is ready to enjoy at a very reasonable price for a factory convertible and any inspection is welcome and encouraged - come and have a look - if you are in the market for one of these it may be for you. If it isn't then it is not a problem as we love driving these around our village (on a warm day!) We can assist with delivery at cost (usually around £1. 20 mile one way).
