Sir Stirling Moss placed the order for his Mercedes 500SL on 05/ 03/ 90 via Mercedes UK. The colours specified were Astral Silver with navy leather and a navy soft top. Further options requested were electric adjustment to both front seats with memory, mirror adjustment with memory, additional indicators, tinted windows with top tint, headlight cleaning system, rear draught stop, cruise control and air conditioning. All paperwork is addressed to his Mayfair address. Rather interestingly he chose to collect the car direct from the factory at Sindelfingen, with five days insurance added to the final price. Upon arrival back in the UK the car was registered on the well known 7 SM registration. The car was featured in a book written in 1993 by Stirling Moss, titled 'Great Drives in the Lakes and Dales'.
