Description:
Up for sale is my 2000 Honda VTR1000 SP1/ SPY in Castrol Colours. I have owned the bike for just over 3 years, and in my possession has probably done less than 500 miles. I had always sadly planned to sell the bike this year and use the monies to fund house related items, and so it seems now is that time.
I purchased the bike from Racing & Investment motorcycles, please google their website and current stock if you are not familiar with the type of bikes they sell. I always dreamed of owning one of these, and very glad i had the chance to before they become perhaps un-affordable. When i saw this one come up with the Castrol Colours, it was a no brainer. Racing & Investment motorcycles purchased it from a collector, and had been sat garaged for a fair few years, the MOT history shows this. It has all paperwork from new, including the original receipt of purchase from QB motorcycles and still wears the number plates with their name. I believe the original buyer must have been a big fan of World Superbikes, seeing as Colin Edwards won the championship in October of that year, and then this bike was purchased in November and had Castrol Colours specified as you can see on the paperwork. It also still has the original Datatool alarm that was fitted from new. It has both original keys, with two sets of keyfobs also.
As far as I am aware, the bike is completely standard and has never been modified. It seems to have been cherished for its entire life and looked after like a baby. In my ownership I have serviced it each year with oil & filter, even though it has barely done a few hundred miles between each. I checked the air filters at the last service and they are in good condition. It wears Pirelli Rosso Corsa tyres, which look to have been fitted in 2014 going by the receipts. It is at least started and ridden small amounts every few weeks, and is kept on a battery conditioner & charger most of the time. It is stored in a metal shed and under a water proof cover, and is never ridden in the wet. Yes, I am most definitely a fair weather rider.
It has been a joy to own and has never had a hiccup, it attracts attention whenever it is ridden. It makes a great noise even on the standard pipes, and it really is a big bike that deserves your full attention to ride! it makes you realise how easy modern bikes are to ride in comparison! It is currently MOT & Sorn as I have not had a chance to ride in much over the last few months having a young family, but it is started up every couple of weeks and has been kept on charge throughout.
As for negatives, it really does not have many. I would rate the condition of the bike as 95%, please do not expect it to be in brand new showroom condition as it has been ridden. It has the odd stone chip, the odd wear and tear marks in the usual high wear areas from being in contact with your body etc. One of the mirrors has a habit of coming loose sometimes, the Datatool alarm is also 20 years old now and is quite clunky to use and does drain the battery if not charged. Also because it has never been modified, it has never had the usual upgrades of exhaust and fuel commander, so it does suffer from the rubbish fueling when pottering around at slow speeds. That is really all i can say against the bike, i really cant imagine anyone would be unhappy with the condition of this bike.
The bike really needs for nothing, and is only the small issues above that stop it from being 100% perfect. If you are after one of these bikes i can guarantee you there wont be many in this condition, with this history, in these colours, as standard around any more. Especially if you are a fan of World Superbikes and Colin Edwards in particular! I also have the pillion seat pad also. Its safe to say I will be sad to no longer have this beautiful bike to stare at and polish every time i open up the shed!
