The LAST OF THE “T” type Midgets arrived in 1953 with a substantial facelift over the “TD” and a 58bhp version of the 1250cc XPAG engine. It remained in production with various changes until 1955 when it was superseded by the MGA.
This car is a 1954 MG TF 1250 in red with a biscuit interior and matching hood, tonneau and side screens. It has been in the same ownership since 2006 and has an interesting history. It was built new as a RHD export model, spent the first 23 years of its life in Sri Lanka and has had just three owners in the UK since it was re-imported in 1977. The last owner used it little but there are various bills from the 70’s and 80’s from Naylor Brothers for maintenance and improvement work, and the last owner entrusted it to Peter Edney in 2006 for an engine rebuild (at a cost then of £2300) and it has covered just a few miles since then.
It presents in beautiful order with just the odd imperfection to the paint and chrome and is also remarkably original. As far as we can see, the ash frame is in fine order - the doors close firmly and as they should so it’s likely that the warm climate of Sri Lanka and subsequent garaging of this car have saved it from deterioration. We have just carried out some basic re-commissioning after a long period of little use and this TF is now on the button and running and driving. There is a little further work to do before it can be used regularly and we are happy top carry this out but no substantial expense - this car comes to us as a bereavement sale and we are offering it here on behalf of the family.
