1969 MGC Roadster
LTU 275G was built between 29 August and 12 September 1968 and registered as a 1969 MGC Roadster. It left the factory finished in British Racing Green with black trim, a black hood and wire wheels.
Originally supplied to the North American market, the car remained in the USA for approximately 25 years before being imported and registered in the UK in 1993. It is an older restoration and was used for local shows and rallies during the early 2000s.
The MGC was previously sold by a well-known classic-car dealership in 2013. At that time, it received a reconditioned overdrive gearbox, new engine mounts, a new speedometer cable and a full service.
During the following 11 years, approximately £10, 000 was spent on maintenance and improvements. Work included:
New hood with later folding frame
New tonneau cover and door capping's
New inertia-reel seatbelts
New Continental tyres
New water pump and thermostat
Reconditioned radiator
New brake master cylinder and larger brake servo
Replacement brake pipes and rear brake shoes
New flexible fuel pipes to the carburettors
New core plugs and rear main oil seal
New clutch kit and resurfaced flywheel
More recently, the car received a full service and carburettor tune, coolant flush, new rear brake cylinders, rear axle straps, indicator stalk and various wiring improvements. The supporting invoices are included with the car.
Introduced in 1967, the MGC combined the familiar MGB body with a 2. 9-litre straight-six engine. It was developed as MG’s more powerful grand tourer and as a proposed successor to the Austin-Healey 3000. Production lasted only until 1969, making it considerably less common than the standard MGB.
We have test-driven the car and found it to offer a firm, enjoyable ride with good handling and responsive performance. The straight-six engine feels strong and maintains good oil pressure, while the reconditioned gearbox changes smoothly and the overdrive operates correctly.
The MGC offers much of the six-cylinder character and open-top appeal associated with an Austin-Healey 3000, but at a fraction of the purchase price. It is a genuinely enjoyable British roadster and we do not believe its next owner will be disappointed.
The body remains straight and structurally sound, while the British Racing Green paintwork presents well for an older restoration. Chrome wire wheels, black leather seats with green piping, good carpets and a wooden dashboard complete its traditional appearance. The engine bay and underside are also clean and tidy.
