4. 5 Litre V8 engine, automatic transmission with cruise control, highly polished 'Zebrano' wood veneers, tinted glass, central locking, radio, Hirschmann electric antenna, US Federal specification twin headlamps, side marker lights & bumpers, front driving lamps, MB Tex upholstery, climate control, front head restraints, front & rear seat belts plus all of the usual period Mercedes Benz refinements
EXTERIOR:
Finished in the fantastic 1970s colour option of Icon Gold Metallic, she can only be described as the original & unrestored survivor motor car.
Having lived in the warm climate of California for the majority of her fourty four years, corrosion or previous poor repairs are thankfully not an issue here!
We have been truly amazed by the structual condition of this SEL. The notorious sill & jacking point areas on most UK supplied cars are rust free, the inner wheel arches are still factory fresh & under the bonnet is totally unrestored & solid. She really needs to be viewed to be fully appreciated.
INTERIOR:
Optioned with MB Tex finished in the wonderful Cognac, contrasting Light Tan carpets with highly polished Zebrano wood veneers. All aspects of this '116' are untouched & factory original, now after a lifetime of preservation, she carries a charming patina throughout
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION:
Built with the beloved Mercedes Benz 4. 5 litre V8 engine & automatic transmission.
This 1976 example soon reminds the driver of just how special these 'W116' models are. The engine fires with a muted V8 burble & simply wafts away from standstill all the way up to cruising speed with no fuss or stress at all. On our workshops test drive, the all important water temprature & oil pressure remained absolutely spot on. An amazing quality drive even after four decades!
HISTORY FILE:
This example was originally supplied new to California in 1976 & remained in the USA until 2018 when she was imported by a private collector from the Netherlands. The SEL was very seldom driven during this tenure & when a fellow Mercedes Benz collector showed a very keen interest, a sale was agreed & the car was destined to join another European private collection.
After importation into England in 2019, the 450 SEL was again seldom used & the gentleman has now decided that this wonderful motor car finally deserves to be truly enjoyed on the road!
