The Mercury Division of the Ford Motor Company produced the Montclair from 1955 to 1957. Its styling and design was sourced from the Mercury XM-800 concept car of 1954. When introduced, the Montclair was Mercury's premium automobile, although by the close of production (in 1957), the Turnpike Cruiser would surpass the Montclair, and the Montclair would become the company's mid-range vehicle.
The 1957 Mercury Montclair was powered by an overhead-valve V8 displacing 312 cubic-inches and offering 255 horsepower. An automatic transmission was standard, and a 368 CID V8 offering 290 horsepower was optional, as was the M-335 power package which added a two four-barrel carburetor to the 368 engine, boosting horsepower to 335 bhp.
The car I am selling is a 1957 model that I imported from the sunshine state of Florida almost 12 years ago and have used it sparingly for film work, weddings and charity work throughout the UK and it has raised money for Cancer research which was extremely important to me given the illness that I had almost 10 years ago and without the support of charities I would not be here today so this car holds a very big place in my heart!
The car is in very original condition and has been maintained by my team of highly skilled engineers and restorers and now presents in very good condition.
There is general wear and tear but overall a sound car with some fabulous patina and very little expense would make it back to its best.
The engine is superb and performs very well and the big V8 fires ???? into life at the first time of asking and sounds fabulous.
The auto gearbox is silky smooth given its 63 years existence and all other ancillaries are in good working order.
The bodywork is generally very good indeed and has some very small scratches and light imperfections but would take little expense to make perfect.
The chrome is also in good shape barring the top of the small front bumper and could easily be re chromed and the cost of this is £150.
The interior of the car is excellent and totally original and the seats carpets dashboard and all other areas do not require any money being spent on them and the remote front bench seat all works superbly well.
All gauges, dials and instruments work correctly and all electrical components are in good working order.
There is also the very rare mercury emblem in the middle of the parcel shelf in the rear and they are worth a lot of money.
All electric windows work as they should and the glass all round is unmarked.
The tyres are all good and do not need replacing and the white walls are presentable too.
The chassis of the car is solid as they were built to last and the only item requiring replacement soon would be the exhaust as it is starting to show signs of fatigued metal and I have had an estimate of £550.
The drive of the car is very nice indeed given its 18. 5ft length and I have driven it 1000’s of miles and never had a mechanical breakdown all be it had to repair the alternator and some small technical glitches.
The car is cheap to insure, no road tax and an investment for the future
There is so much potential for this fabulous car and a money earner that covers its keep and also have the pleasure of incredible memories and every petrol station being a talking point with thousands of admirers wanting to know everything about the car!!

Benefits from the addition of the continental kit and this was almost £4000 fitted and can be removed if not wanted and sold for a lot of money!
So that is the story of this wonderful piece of Classic Americana and could be yours and I will be sad to see it go but it’s been an amazing journey filled with joy and my wish is for it to go to a new home that will give it the TLC that it deserves.
