Description
For a first purchase and for easy or everyday use, this 1961 COMET will give you great pleasure within a reasonable budget, both in terms of purchase price, maintenance and running costs.
A rare vehicle that draws a lot of attention from enthusiasts as well as the general public.
Immerse yourself in the vibe of 1960s American films with this saloon car adapted to today’s roads.
The car was fully restored in the 2000s, engine and bodywork. Recently the interior was restored to the original specification with new carpet (including in the boot), the seats (high-density foam and automotive-grade fabric), the dashboard, door panels and rear shelf.
The original engine is a quiet, fuel-efficient inline six (10. 7 L/ 100 km). It can run on 98 octane petrol or other premium with an additive.
Recent work: wheel alignment and tyre change. Work to be carried out: treat rust spots and repaint the lower door areas, door and window seals.
In 2024 the car covered 2, 700 km in 9 days with no mechanical issues or oil consumption.
The bodywork shows rust spots at the lower doors and wings, but the underbody is sound.
Sourcing parts is not difficult as the COMET shared most of its spare parts with the FORD FALCON and FORD MUSTANG. The 250-page workshop manual, translated into French with the original part references and their American names, is supplied with the car.
Its contemporaries were the Chevrolet Impala, Buick Invicta, Cadillac DeVille,
To boost sales in 1964, Mercury had 5 COMETs run for 160, 000 km at an average of 160 km/ h. 4 cars made it to the end of this challenge.
