So With the release of the new facelift model Mercedes W111 280se in late September or early November 1969, this Mercedes 280se Low Grill was registered early September and with a 3 month waiting list for your car to be built is a very rare Mercedes , I would suggest it was properly a demo car for Mercedes to show the new style model but can not get verification of this.
Mercedes can verify that only 3797 280se Mercedes W111 was ever made , and out of that just 150 cars was built in Right hand drive and 56 of those was built and sent to Australia , leaving an unbelievable 94 UK built cars.
Out of these 94 UK built cars over 90 percent was built with Tall Grill, and we believe less than 5 was built with the 6 cylinder in the new look Low Grill body style 111 Mercedes .
This is a genuine and regrettable sale, as I have had this car parked untouched for 4 years and the guy before me had it a lot longer. I’m just not going to get round to restoring it back to its formal glory which it definitely deserves.
Iv fitted new tyres earlier in the year as old ones kept going down. Body very Solid but you will find slight surface rust in places. Interior is untouched from new, so old and original . Iv decided to have car MOT’D for 12 Months. As drove it to local garage for a check over and they said it looks like it could go straight through.
