Welcome to the sale of this Standard Super Ten.
The Standard Motor Company (est. 1903) manufactured cars from its factory in Coventry, England.
The “Eight”, “Ten”, “Twelve” etc model names were given to the companies small, family orientated saloon cars between 1906 and 1961 originally referencing the car's horsepower. From approx. 1940 this namesake became irrelevant as later models were developed with more powerful engines. As with other manufacturers, Standard continued to adopt this naming convention, now being more relevant to the cars classification for tax purposes.
From 1953, Standard offered the Eight model with an economical 803 CC, OHV engine producing 28 BHP. In 1954, the Eight model was supplemented with the Ten model, which shared a similar chassis, bodywork, girling drum brakes and four speed syncromesh transmission but now featuring a more powerful engine, 948 CC producing 33 BHP.
The Standard Super Ten (Ph. 11) was a 1 year only model produced between October 1956 – 1957.
Based on the commission number, evidently this car rolled off the production line between January and April 1957. The Super Ten model featured an exterior sun visor, heavy duty interior heater, electric windshield wipers and deep-pile interior carpeting.
I would describe this little car as a practical classic and in original condition cosmetically, while structurally the car is sound. During my ownership, it has been dry stored and only taken out on dry days. The interior is in great condition considering it’s 63-year-old heritage. The cars starts on the button, whisks along nicely keeping up with modern day traffic and never fails to catch people’s attention.
Mechanically, I have replaced the Dynamo, the voltage regulator (control box) and completed a service of the brake system including replacing the master cylinder and wheel cylinders’ overhaul. Sourcing parts for these cars is made seamless through Tony @ Standard8n10spares who is very knowledgeable, helpful and prompt. The owners club is also an option for those who wish to join it.
The car retains its original license plate which will be included in the sale. I very recently had this plate independently valued receiving an offer for £350. I understand many Standards have been split from their original license plate, instead being replaced with an un-issued Irish/ Welsh period plate via the DfT directly or in-directly via a broker.
I am seeking to relocate over-seas and so won’t be taking any excess baggage with me, hence the recent work undertaken to get this car ready for market.
This car is advertised elsewhere, so I reserve the right to remove from sale at any point. This car will be sold as seen only, I highly recommend viewing and am very happy to accommodate this in a socially distanced manner.
