We are delighted to present for sale this Series 3 Land Rover®, which was purchased locally to us from York. This vehicle is a very standard ‘no frills’ Series 3 petrol – and we have elected to leave it this way for a new keeper to enjoy, rather than spoil the period look. It comes with a file of receipts showing lots of money spent – from general care to restorative work, which is great to see.
Externally, this is a very standard Land Rover® Series 3 – with a bonnet mounted spare, vintage numberplates, rear grab handles and a towball with electrics to enable towing. We think it looks just as it should. The bodywork is original, and has age related marks and patina, but this is in keeping with both the price-point and the original feel, so we have opted to leave this well alone – just giving it a good clean and a polish for these photos.
The interior has three deluxe front seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. The rear is unfitted with the exception of a load mat to the floor area. What is nice to note is the unmolested feel here – the dash top has not suffered with the usual sun cracking issues & the dash has not been cut into with non-standard dials or switches, which is good to see too.
Out on the road, this old girl delivers a pleasing period driving experience – it has nice sharp brakes, which have been recently overhauled prior to our purchase, and this is great to see. We suspect this vehicle has also had a set of long ratio differentials (though it is difficult to be sure without breaking the gearbox apart!) – the in-gear acceleration is far longer than standard, and it sits quite happily at 50-55mph in the cruise with no issues.
In summary, if you are looking for an original Series 3 Land Rover® which won’t break the bank – both to purchase and to run with classic insurance and tax and MOT exemption, then this is for you. This would be an ideal first Series Land Rover® for someone looking to start out, or for a family to use and enjoy – and we do not envisage it being around for long.
