Beschreibung
1998 Rover 620 SLI Auto finished in British racing green metallic. It has a flint velour interior which is flawless. Its never had a pet in it or been smoked in. The MOT April 2022 (check its history on the DVLA website). This car is in regular use and has been in the time I've owned it. The mileage is now 71, 800 since this advert went lived, but I cannot edit it. I've just fitted 2 new Goodyear tyres to the rear for the MOT. The front tyres are Pirellis and are fine. This model came with 7 spoke alloy wheels. The spare is a full size steel item and is original. The car is in good overall condition; there is no structural rust. I've been religious when I've washed it to keep the wheel arches and underside clean. Mechanically it is fine, being all Honda, it runs beautifully and service items are easily and cheaply located. I've just clay bar'd the car and sealed the paintwork since taking these photos.
The car features twin airbags, ABS brakes, a factory immobiliser, a spare key. I've just refurbished the remote central locking blipper which now works. All 4 electric windows, the electric sunroof and the electric aerial are all working perfectly, which is unusual but not if you know how to look maintain them. All warning lights come on with ignition, self check and then extinguish. The electric mirrors work and heat-up rapidly. The steering wheel is leather bound.
There is air-con fitted but requires a condenser (approx £57+VAT and a very straight forward fit). Anyone that says these just need a 're-gas' is mistaken. Note; some of these had dealer fit air-con, this one is factory. There is an aftermarket CD player fitted in lieu of original factory head unit. The interior is the facelift model meaning it comes with a proper centre armrest, more bolstered seats (there is a patent on them, sad fact) and a lockable, lined, glovebox along with bottle holders in the door pockets.
Known to me for around 20 years, I've supplied parts to for it for a long time. I used to sell these brand new back in the '90s. Originally registered by Rover Cars (hence the virtually GSi specification) and then owned by a brother and sister. This was not one of those 600s that sat on a disused runway for years. I was given first refusal in 2019 to buy it. I've ran purely on premium petrol during my ownership. The most reliable Rover model they ever made, arguably the most elegant. A pleasure to drive. Running one of these daily will not break the bank -unlike a 75.
The leather bound handbook, service book, immobiliser code and a fair number of invoices present,. There is lots of service history you can wade through over a cup of tea. Factory rubber mats and front mud flaps fitted. I had it fully serviced by a Rover master technician when I bought it (Castrol Edge oil, NGK spark plugs, air, oil & fuel filters, brake fluid flushed. Both rear brake callipers are working fine and I had the brakes stripped, cleaned and rebuilt. There is a Stainless steel exhaust fitted but manufactured to OE spec (it cost a fortune, invoice present). Viewings and test drives welcome (subject to insurance). Its kept in a double garage so detailed inspection available regardless of weather.
The timing belts and balancer shaft belts have been changed previously, but I would advise changing them again. The automatic gearbox fluid has also been changed regularly over the course of its life (these were never sealed-for-life units, and servicing is routine/ scheduled for them). I would also recommend you change this along with a drain down of the PAS fluid. I am telling you this to A) answer commonly asked questions I've had and B) these are what I would do next if I wasn't getting a new car as I'm all for preventative maintenance. Due to covid regs, I've not been able to get my master tech to do these for me at my home.
I was going to enter this into Matthewsons, but have been too busy with work to get it organised and entered. The last one there made close to £4, 000 after the fees were paid in March this year. I've no doubt after speaking to Paul that they could get me the money I'm after for this. But the popularity of that auction house and my work commitments keep conspiring against us. The benefit of buying this privately is that you get to hear it run and not pay the fees. If you phone me, beware that my job means I can rarely answer the phone. I've had quite a few calls since putting this one sale, but have been unable to accommodate viewings. However, before you phone me, I'd just like to stress that this car turned 23 years old this month (May). It is not a time-warp car. Its been in regular use so it not factory fresh. If you are after a show winning car, you need to look elsewhere or be prepared to put the money and effort into getting it there. This car is very clean, presentable and useable. Finally, do not tell me that Rover fitted these cars with a naturally aspirated T-series engine and an automatic gearbox. They never ever did.
