Bandini was founded in 1946 by IIario Bandini in Fori, Italy. Aviation grade tubular steel was used to produce the chassis. The body was made from hand hammered aluminium. Other post-war Italian sports car companies followed a similar design. However, Bandini's cutting edge, racing knowledge and his eye for detail ensured that Bandini cars were a force to be reckoned with in Europe and the U. S. Interest in America surged when Bandini Siluros, with their screaming 750cc engines, won SCCA class championships in 1955 and 1957. His slightly modified Crosley engines became famous thanks their double overhead camshaft Bandini heads. Bandini himself continued to race in Italy, including the Mille Miglia.
This stunning left hand drive lightweight racer comes with a comprehensive history together with FIA papers. Having competed in many rallies this Bandini was completely restored in 2017 including a full engine rebuild. The car has been kept in very good order since by the vendor who has owned this delightful machine for the last 11 years. The curvaceous lines of these 1100 Sports with the 'single cycle' mudguards and the dual front grille, together with the sloping rear contribute to make this a superb looking race car of the period. The majority on Bandini's manufactured went to the U. S. and it is thought only three Sport models such as this example were ever manufactured, making this an extremely rare and highly sought-after example. Registered in the UK and supplied with a V5C registration document.
