1978 KIT CAR MG TF GENTRY RMB SOLD
The gentleman who built this car in 1978 was the MD of Continental Microwave who were a big player in digital transmission later sold to Motorola.
He owned a large and interesting collection of vintage cars including MG TF and TD and had his own Cessna plane so was not short of money.
So in the 1970s he decided to build his idea of a perfect car.
Unlike most Kit cars he did not just buy a scrap car and fit the Gentry body he bought a perfectly good donor car and proceeded to build the car using mostly new parts including the chassis.
When completed he even had it registered as a brand new car which meant passing acceptance tests, Type approval etc with the DVLA and paying the full new car tax on it.
All the paperwork and a huge history file is with the car.
The original Triumph Vitesse 2. 0 Litre donor car was a 1967 model and in excellent condition however he still used a brand new chassis.
It is unthinkable now to dismantle a good Triumph Vitesse.
All the chassis components were renewed or fully reconditioned along with the engine and drive train . Period modifications were taken advantage of and the engine rebuild included tuning to GT 6 specification by SAH Tuning who also supplied the rear suspension performance kit.
The car has never been used in the rain and kept in a heated garage along with the second owners Rolls Royce.
The car is still very much as it was built in 1978 except for a new stainless steel exhaust replacing the original which still had a BMC sticker on.
It is great fun to drive and feels tight and with startling acceleration.
The much preferred straight six engine is super smooth and has the overdrive gearbox so motorway
cruising is no problem.
It is very comfortable to ride in and no bone shaker.
The original owner and builder of the car sadly passed away and the car was sold to a close friend who owns a fascinating collection of vehicles and a private museum for Vintage Technology.
The car is now in my collection and having too many projects and health scares feel the need to downside so I am selling this and my 1955 Bentley.
The Gentry is now Tax and Mot exempt having classic car status and ideal for historic car rallies.
Insurance is also cheap with RH classic car specialists.
Any trial or inspection is welcome and a new Mot can be done if the new owner wishes.
The car has just been serviced including changing all the oils and is road legal and ready to enjoy.
