We are delighted to present for sale this high specification Series 3 109 Land Rover®, presented in Limestone. This vehicle benefits from a host of extras which make it far more useable than the standard model.
Externally, the appearance is largely period in nature – there are a pair of chrome front spots which work on high beam, a bonnet mounted spare, original galvanised cappings, rear grabhandles, rear mudflaps and towball with electrics. It is nice to note this vehicle has two spare tyres to allow long-distance trips without concerns regarding punctures. The safari roof is still fitted, which is great to see too, along with the alpine lights. Defender-style wing mirrors have been fitted to afford better visibility to the driver. A set of cross-climate tyres are fitted, which are larger than the standard tyres – this gives better gearing and also reduces RPM’s at speed – whilst also giving a strong stance.
The interior has survived in largely original order – with deluxe seats in the front, and door cards with full arm-rests, door pulls and door pockets (very rare to see!). There is a soundproofing kit fitted over the transmission tunnel and bulkhead to give a quieter drive. The second row of seats are the standard type, as they should be, again with all the door trims fitted. The rear houses a set of 3 man benches on either side, with a load mat to the floor area. All 12 seats in this Series are belted, too – a real rarity and very desirable. Perhaps the reason why these LWB Station Wagons are popular is due to their ability to carry the biggest of families whilst retaining a bright and airy feel for all passengers – indeed any business wishing to convey customers en masse could certainly make use of this vintage Land Rover®!
Out on the road, the 2. 5 litre petrol (early 90 engine) mated to the overdrive and cross climate rubber, gives an improved drive over standard….. what is particularly nice about this conversion is that on lifting the bonnet, the vehicle still retains the period charm, whilst having that extra capacity and gearing to cope with more modern driving experiences. The addition of a galvanised chassis also means that this truck could be a once in a lifetime purchase for the larger family, and owned for the duration of that families life span – something one could not say today about modern Land Rovers®, or indeed any modern vehicle. As no MOT or tax is required, it could even be an infrequent use vehicle that can sit on a drive ready for a harsh winter as there is no monthly burn of finances or MOT upkeep associated with it, other than regular servicing.
In summary, if you are looking for a long-term family Land Rover®, that should hold its value and even appreciate, that can get the whole family through the worst of the winter weathers, or take the surf boards to the beach in the summer, then this unique, restored survivor is worth considering placing in the family stable.
All in all, we think this is a cracking vehicle and deserves a long-term custodian…. such vehicles do not come along every day.
