- Introduced as production of the Ghibli was coming to a close, the Khamsin was fitted with Maserati's 4. 9-liter DOHC V-8 engine and 2+2 seating. This would be the first Maserati with a unitary construction bodyshell, and the first front-engined Maserati with a four-wheel independent suspension. Maserati implemented hydraulic braking, clutch assistance, power-steering, seat adjustment and headlight actuation from parent company Citroën.
- Was manufactured on February 20, 1975 as a U. S.-specification model, finished in Giallo over black with a five-speed manual gearbox.
- It is said to be one of just seven finished examples in Giallo (yellow), of which only two or three may remain.
- According to records provided by Maserati historian Marc Sonnery, this particular Khamsin was delivered new to Los Angeles and sold to Russel C. Schmidt in Mount Clemens, Michigan.
- Interestingly, Schmidt bought another Khamsin at the same time and had it converted into the famous one-off Khamsin Spyder.
- In December of 1986, D. Waterman of Motorcar Gallery in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, visited Schmidt and bought both Khamsins.
- While the Spyder was sent to Florida, Schmidt's yellow coupe was sold locally and later purchased by a gentleman in Tennessee.
- He took part in a track day with it at Virginia International Raceway.
- The Maserati was later acquired by Doug Magnon for inclusion in the Riverside International Automotive Museum. Soon after its return to California, Doug had a European bumper kit installed to revert styling to its original Bertone design. The car was then featured in a magazine article, and in May of 2013 at the suggestion Marc Sonnery, Doug got together with Jay Leno for a test drive of the car on his YouTube channel, Jay Leno's Garage.
- As of this listing, the video has been seen by nearly 667, 600 viewers on YouTube, making it the most viewed Khamsin in the world. The Maserati has since resided in a private collection.
- A Well preserved, frequently serviced, and highly publicized from known ownership, this Khamsin offers the drivers enthusiast many options for further enjoyment.
- Portions of original paint are visible in areas, while much of the exterior trim and lenses appear original, as is all etched glass – retaining an original Agip Vettura in Rodaggio (break-in) windshield decal.
- The cabin remains exceptionally original, including the leather upholstery, carpeting, trim, instruments, switches and equipment.
- Supplemental mats protect the front carpeting; a period Jensen radio is fitted along with factory air conditioning.
- Currently, the car displays 21, 400 miles on its odometer, which are believed to be original.
- The Maserati's engine bay and undercarriage are equally kempt, correct, and properly displayed.
- The Khamsin is further supported by an original owner's manual and U. S. supplemental manuals, spare parts catalogs, recent invoices in dossier, original and additional keys, as well as an original tool kit, emergency window crank, wheel spanners, jack in pouch and space saver spare wheel stowed upfront.

The Maserati Khamsin (Tipo AM120) is a grand tourer produced by Italian automobile manufacturer Maserati between 1974 and 1982. The Khamsin was sold alongside the DeTomaso-based Maserati Kyalami — also a V8 2+2 GT car - between 1976 and 1982.
Following Maserati's tradition it was named after a wind: the Khamsin, a hot, violent gust blowing in the Egyptian desert for fifty days a year.
