1975 Austin Allegro series 1 1300 estate. Series 1 estates were only produced June-Oct ’75 with seven known to the owner’s club but only this and possibly one other on the road. MOT & tax exempt but has MOT until June 2022. 103000 miles. Owned by me since 2009 with just one previous owner.
Bodywork is very solid. It was ziebarted when new which has undoubtedly helped. It had a partial restoration in 2015; one front wing replaced, one repaired. One sill replaced, one repaired. Scuttle repaired. Sides, scuttle & tailgate resprayed; a good but not perfect job which has stood up well over the past six years.
Mechanically sound. Silver seal recon engine, albeit fitted in the 1970s along with a stainless exhaust. Unleaded head. Clutch replaced approx. 10k ago, when the gearbox was replaced with one from a Metro HLE. This is now fitted with a 3. 44:1 diff, and allows much more relaxed cruising than the original 3. 93:1. HLE gearboxes have more spaced out ratios so 1st gear is still virtually exactly where it should be on an Allegro.
Has recently had a very good second hand fuel tank fitted. In the past two years has also had a recon steering rack (with bronze bush to replace the troublesome nylon one), front brake calipers rebuilt with stainless pistons, clutch slave cylinder and new hoses fitted to the rear displacers.
Interior is in pretty good condition for its age; one small crack in dashboard and small splits in the front seats being the worst parts (spare passenger seat included – see below). Has rear seatbelts fitted.
Excellent tyres all round; matching pairs front and rear.
The towbar was fitted when new and I have photos of the original owner and his family on holiday with the car and their caravan!
Comes with lots of spares including interior in the same colour (except driver’s seat which has already been fitted), bonnet, tailgate, all glass, lights and more.
Also has a large history file, including most if not all MOTs since new and many receipts from both the original owner and myself.
I’d happily drive it anywhere, and pre-Covid frequently did. I have no doubt it will get you home. It will be at the BL show in Milton Keynes on 26th September if not sold before.
