1963 AMC Rambler 660 classic.
I’ve owned this for a couple of years and have enjoyed every moment pretty faultlessly
-tax and MOT exempt.
-3. 2l straight six with a 3 speed columnshift flashomatic ( Borg Warner 35)
Engine recently serviced and runs like clockwork, over 600 miles covered in the last few months to various shows and events! Cruises comfortably at 55-60
-The gearbox has a slight issue where when the engine is still slightly cold it can drop into natural when stopped and takes about 30 seconds until it automatically goes back into first. For example it’ll start, drive to the car park exit, then whilst waiting at the junction it’ll go into neutral then you wait for 30 seconds or so and it’ll smoothly go back into first. It’ll only do it once so not really bothered me. I haven’t done a gearbox oil change in a while so could just be that, I’ll aim to get that done before sale. Did over 200 miles again last weekend to goodwood revival!
Custom fabricated and fitted air lift dominator D2500 bags all round. Gold metallic tank in the boot with a Range Rover compressor. About 15 mins full inflation (10 mins drive height)
-cragar style 14” x 7j wheels all round with new tyres with painted whitewalls
-the paint is original paint, the majority of it is Patina
Structurally the car is in brilliant condition! It’s been under sealed yearly ever since it came to the U. K. so no rust concern anywhere really! It’s beginning to swell slightly on the wing where it bolts to the strut towers but thats about it.
I recently had the back axle out to replace a UJ so took the opportunity to thoroughly waxoyl the axle and the underside, into the shock towers.
The real amazing history!
The car itself was a American made, then sent to Africa to serve with the US aid movement in the 60s & 70s! The gentleman who worked for US aid and drove the car day in day out loved it so much, he purchased it from the embassy and had it exported to Scotland when he moved there too! (Original sale documents and export paperwork)
Bags of paperwork to show this and photos! Who knows what it could have done! It has a second fuel tank tap but the tank has been removed.
