Honda N600 Touring – Restored/ Rare Early Honda Car
The Honda N600 was developed in the late 1960’s by Honda alongside the smaller N360 ‘Kei Car’ to target export markets in Europe and USA where higher top road speeds were expected & Alec Issigonis radical Mini design was dominating small car sales.
Contemporary road tests reported a top speed in excess of 77mph from the 600cc twin cylinder engine with easy parking/ light controls and a high level of interior trim. The N600 was one of the first Honda models imported into the UK and the rest, as they say, is history.
At Milestones we always enjoy buying top quality cars and we could not resist the charms of this super rare early Honda N600 Touring that featured in Practical Classics magazine nearly 10 years ago as a reader’s restoration and still looks super sharp today.
The car was restored by Gavin Peake – a young man looking for his first car and something a little different to a Mini or an Imp. Bought locally, the N600 was stripped down completely, paint removed, all corrosion cut out/ new metal let in and parts sourced as required (many are shared with the Honda S800). The interior was in good condition (only carpets and door cars replaced) and the car was resprayed in her original Honda Tawny Yellow. The result is a real credit to Gavin and has stood the test of time extremely well with good panel fit/ paint and only the odd blemish commensurate with light use.
On the road the Honda offers a twin cylinder (600cc) soundtrack that any motorcyclist will recognise instantly and a very easy driving experience that can keep up with modern traffic.
The history file includes the original owner’s manual, contemporary sales literature, Practical Classics magazine where the car is featured, old MOT’s etc.
Early Honda’s are a rare sight on UK roads and the N600 offers a real alternative to the ubiquitous Mini – when did you last see one? We recommend early viewing to fully appreciate the charms of this lovable classic.
