Remarkably original 1964 VW Splitscreen Samba with just 61, 000 miles from new.
With a known history from new, this genuine 21 window original UK Samba is incredibly rare being unmolested and 99% original German steel. An older restoration, it has been sensitively restored to original colour scheme (L472 Beige Grey over L53 Sealing Wax Red), original interior trim panels etc. and is mechanically true to the original specification, including the original engine.
- Started life as a film crew bus for Blenheim locations - it's low mileage reflecting the fact it was not a commercial runaround and probably a fair weather ride.
- Was taken off the road in 1979 when purchased by Don Stewart one of the founders of the Split Screen Vehicle Club
- Is the second bus on the SSVC register
- The pictures of the bus when found in the mid 1990's shows what great condition it was in before restoration, it was never a 'Swiss cheese'!
- It was stored by Don from 1979 until 1994 when it's next owner commissioned a high quality bare-metal respray
- This next owner was Kane Kramer - the man Apple credited with the invention of the MP3 player
- It was then stored by Kane until 2017 when I bought it and put it back on the road.
so... it has done less than 100 miles since 1979!
It drives as these buses would have back in the day - and as someone who has owned and driven a few splitscreens over the past few years, I can tell you that you are in for a treat!
As you will see from the pics, despite the restoration being over 26 years ago, it's (completely) sheltered life since then means that it is in really superb condition throughout. The belly-pans underneath still show the original paint.
The bus is a true rarity, but the market being what it is, is being offered for far, far less than it owes me.
An opportunity to own a piece of history, and a great practical classic for a very realistic and modest price.
You simply won't find another like it.
