A very regrettable sale of my January 1996 matching numbers, R129 SL 500 that was originally supplied by Normand of Mayfair London Ltd.
Picked from a collection being released from within a predominantly classic Porsche museum locally, nestled among many other fine classic Mercedes cars, stored there for the past three years at the rear of a globally successful classic and vintage Porsche parts and servicing emporium in England and only used for an annual cruise out for its MOT test. The current MOT expires in June 2022.
A low mileage example for it's age, showing just under 107000 miles with a large Mercedes history file and a mass of servicing documentation.
Totally original, unmolested and never been restored or resprayed and not needing so, this near on six figure (when new) fully loaded Bruno Sacco designed beauty is a great example of a true iconic survivor with an under carriage and body matched in condition to that of a much younger car.
This 155 MPH GT Roadster is up there with the heavy weights and packs a performance punch to the tune of 320 BHP via the bulletproof and more desirable M119 engine, coupled to a butter smooth Sport and Eco mode automatic gearbox… the box alone sold me this car and has had a rebuild, as has the cars wiring with receipts.
Single bold colour ‘904 dunkenblau/ midnight blue’ slab-side body is as straight as the day it was built and has been detailed using only premium products. 8 hole slot alloy wheels with Pirelli P7s all round make tarmac contact.
Removable hardtop is very good with a mint headliner, as is the soft top which was replaced in 2015. All electrically operated swiftly with a Weismann collapsible hood stand and a fly/ wind deflector which is housed within the boot compartment walls alongside an unused spare tyre and unused first aid kit.
Cream hide interior features thick pile cream carpets, heated and electrically operated front leather memory seats, digital ice cold A/ C and climate control with a QuickClear front screen, original Blaupunkt Pasadena DJ quick release stereo cassette player and boot mounted CD changer, electronic stability programme, electric adjustable steering rack, electric windows, electric mirrors, auto-dim rv mirror, cruise control, driver and passenger air bags, polished burr walnut centre console, leather rollover bar, fire extinguisher and Mercedes approved Thatcham alarm/ immobiliser system and Tracker with fold down car. 4 seats with carpeted fold down luggage storage…the leather rears are visually unused.
Rest assured this car has been serviced by Mercedes and reputable German specialist independent previously, with a recent big service including oil change/ filter, plugs, leads, aux belts, tensioners, cabin filter, Pierburg fuel pump, Mann fuel filter and brake pipes, all carried out at the very reputable Porsche/ Mercedes specialist on November 10th. There are stacks of receipts and invoices for previous MB maintenance work along with old MOT certificates and original books.
Like it’s predecessor the R107 SL, it’s a fast rising investment at less than only a 5th of it’s original price but heading back upwards and in a nutshell; everything works as it should on this HPi clear, on-the-button example, delivering all the niceties as per when it left the factory.
It presents beautifully with only a few little stone chips and a very small area of mild aged seat wear. It really is nothing major and I'm probably being fussy, there's nothing sinister on this beautiful example.
The struggle would be to find one as solid, it's just a real lovely hassle-free survivor.
Looks, feels, sounds and smells amazing.
Please call or email, I have around 40 more detailed photos to provide and happy to discuss.
Located near Maldon, Essex (30 mins from M25 London).
I don't wish to part exchange as this is only for sale due to a looming E Class project.
