Discovered in July of this year (2021)
having been dry stored in a centrally heated garage FOR 21 YEARS
covered over with a cotton sheet is this :-
1980 Triumph TR7 2. 0S TR TECHNIQUES AUTOMATIC
with a GENUINE 1, 100 MILES FROM NEW
Yes one thousand one hundred miles from new
owned by 1 MATURE LADY OWNER who purchased this in 1980.
Talk about a rare find...... this truly is a vehicle you may never come across again
Ok, so the story with this unique find is this.....
In 1980 the wealthy British lady who this vehicle belonged to,
not only lived and owned a large house in the UK,
but also owned a holiday home in California USA,
while in the UK she had been looking for a TR7 but it had to be a red Automatic which not only proved rather difficult to find,
but the Great British climate was also somewhat a deterrent, so she postponed her search.
On a vacation to her California home in 1979, the lady found a dealer on the West Coast that had a brand new red automatic TR7 that she decided to purchase and use as her run about when holidaying in the USA.
We are told that the vehicle was delivered and registered in January 1980 being a LHD in California and remained unused in her garage until 1990,
this was due to unforeseen circumstances, that unfortunately prevented the family returning to the USA for long vacation stays over the previous 10 years.
So in mid 1991 the decision was made to sell the Californian home and export her now 11 year old beloved TR7 to the UK, with just 2 MILE ON THE SPEEDOMETRE.
Prior to exportation a TR7 specialist company in Bridgnorth, Shropshire had been approached and asked if they would take the vehicle on it's arrival and carry out a complete overhaul including a conversion to RHD as it will now be remaining in the UK.
The vehicle arrived in the UK late 1991 and was send straight from Stansted Airport to the TR7 specialists in Shropshire to undergo it's strip down and complete modification and rebuild.
(Clearly money was no object because we're told the total overhaul cost alone was £13, 000)
In early 1992 the vehicle was registered on a 1980 year related UK registration and ready to be returned to the lady owner having undergone :-
conversion from LHD to UK specification RHD
wide 'TR Techniques' custom body styling including boot spoiler (so 1990's)
choice of contrasting new interior with matching door cards
upholstered boot area
complete engine re-modification with electronic ignition
upgraded alloy wheels
uprated braking system
new suspension
front fog lights
anti-roll bar
high quality radio cassette
full service
new 12 months MOT
and 6 months road tax
Having taken back possession of her car on
9th Jan 1992
with JUST 15 MILES ON THE CLOCK,
this was only ever brought out on sunny, dry days which as we all know,
are very few and far between on our wonderful island
and right up until 2000, this vehicle was only covering about 150-200 miles per year,
then from 2000-2004 the car was only driven from her garage to the MOT station covering
5-6 miles per year.
(WE HAVE ALL THE MOT's FROM WHEN IT CAME TO THE UK 1991 - 2004 TO VERIFY THE GENUINE MILEAGE)
The last MOT was carried out in Feb 2004 and returned to the lady's central heated garage, failing health restricted the lady driving her TR7 and so it remained in her garage,
covered with a cotton sheet until we discovered it in July 2021....
with just over 1, 100 MILE ON THE SPEEDOMETRE.....
Since discovering and acquiring this vehicle in July 2021,
we have personally spent £2, 000. 00 on overhauling and recommissioning
(with receipts)
along with a new 12 month MOT,
removing her private registration and applying for the year related prefix once again.
(Should come back on a V prefix registration)
Just a couple of mentions so you know,
having a thorough inspection the only discrepancies to be found were the fuel gauge doesn't seam to be functioning and the heater blower although works fine on speed 1 & 2, it doesn't appear to be blowing on max (speed number 3) but these a extremely minor issues,
we just want to be as precise and honest as we possibly can,
that said, it's now ready to add to your collection, to use daily,
to keep as a wonderful piece of eye candy or to take along to shows, should you wish.
We have all the paperwork to back up it's history & importation documents,
along with all previous log books, MOT's and the paperwork from the modification company all dating back to 1990/ 91 when this was carried out.
Needless to say this is 100% HPI clear and a real investment.
We have been advised for insurance purpose this should be in the region of £20K-£25K because of the uniqueness and nostalgia this vehicle sustains,
having said that, we've started the bidding at £10, 000 to eliminate all the time wasting getting there, so we will leave it to any serious bidders to decide.
We will possibly be advertising the vehicle elsewhere so reserve the right to withdraw at any point within 24 hours of the auction ending.
We are quite keen to own an early Ford Escort XR3 or Ford Fiesta XR2 (NON INJECTION)..
we may consider an early XR3i but it would have to be no later than 1983.... Not hell bound on owning one and we not interested in the scrap that's out there so it would have to be something very appealing, if you have something that meets the criteria,
give us a try.... cash either way.
N. B We are currently awaiting the new log book having removed the lady's private registration,
we have called the DVLA this week and we've been told this is being processed
and we should have the new log book (V5) and MOT certificate W. C Nov 22nd,
but we have copies of all the originals as proof of previous details.
Obviously, we would not expect anyone to take possession until these documents have arrived.
A minimum 10% deposit will be requested at the end of the auction and collection/ delivery date to be arranged within 48 hours of deposit received.
If you have any questions or would like to arrange a recommended viewing prior to bidding, please feel free to call :-
