PRICE REDUCTION! If we had to talk about the weirdest choice for the most prestigious old-timer rally in the world it would have to be this. What nearly anybody knows about this 1955 Oldsmobile Super 88 it is eligible to enter the Mille Miglia. That is exactly what the previous owner did. He bought the car in 2013, put it on the waiting list in 2014 and in 2015 its time had arrived with an entry to the Mille Miglia! Mechanically the car was fully prepared. The transmission overhauled, many parts preventatively replaced as well as getting a full retune. All with one goal in sight and that was to complete the Mille Miglia. And do you know what? He did it thereby fulfilling a long held wish. This “Super” version Oldsmobile 88 puts out a massive 185 Ps, an enormous amount for 1955. The engine manages this thanks to the four-barrel carburettor. This car enjoyed a high-end restoration in the past and mechanically as well as body wise has continued to receive excellent care.

The bodywork shows a few signs of normal usage but is very neat in general. The panelwork is nice and thin with neat shut lines. It has been spray painted in a brilliant choice of finish. The condition of the

paintwork is overall very good with few signs of use in keeping with the car’s age and mileage. Matters like bumpers and wheels are too in good shape.

The interior trim has been lovingly looked after and is starting to show a desired degree of patina. The colour of the interior trim is a perfect match to its outside. The carpets are new and well fitted. The upholstery only has minor evidence of wear with the dashboard and roof lining still looking good. Instrument cluster and controls all look great and are in fine working order.

To complete the Mille Miglia with any degree of success the choice was made in advance of the most beautiful car event in the world to ensure the car’s mechanics were tip-top order. The overhauled automatic works well and the brakes are nice and responsive. The suspension is characteristically based on good American comfort, not a bad choice if you plan to travel 1, 600 kilometres in four days. The engine is more than capable under all circumstances. The fact this an extremely rare sight at an event such as the Mille Miglia increases the amount of fun in participating with this type instead of the obligatory German or Italian period supercar.

It isn’t just the car’s condition or the fact it was allowed to take part in the Mille Miglia but also how the previous owner looked after the paperwork. There are invoices relating to the car’s preparation totalling over € 10, 000, description of the rally and general information regarding the Oldsmobile Super 88. Possibly this car represents the best budget option to join the illustrious Mille Miglia. You have until the end of December to enter for next year’s event. You do need to own the car for this to happen, so do wait too long.
