Incredible, time warp 1984 Opel Manta GT Fastback with just 12, 000 miles and two owners from new.
Sold to Mr Robert Jones of Maidstone on the 10th April 1984 by Opel main dealers Star Motors, the original purchase invoice, which accompanies the car, shows that A783NKP was specified with the cost options of Astro Silver Metallic paint at £112 and a rear wash wiper at £77. 00 bringing the total sale price (including number plates, petrol and road tax) to the not inconsiderable sum of £6025. 97
Mr Jones kept the car until he passed away in 2005 at which time it was bequeathed to Mr Alan Hogg, who kept the car until its recent arrival with us here at Fairmont Sports & Classics.
The history file that accompanies this car is a delight and contains every single MOT and SORN certificate since the car was three years old. These are all carefully stored in individual clear plastic wallets and show incredibly low annual usage giving credence to the immaculate condition and low mileage.
Initially the car was serviced by Opel main dealers Drake and Fletcher with invoices spanning between 1987 – 1993 at which time the franchise changed to F G Barnes who continued to look after the car until 1995. Between 1996 - 2005 ATT took over the servicing, with the last being recorded at 10, 128 miles. Over the next 15 years the car was rarley used and covered less than 1900 miles and at 11970 miles, the car was serviced and recommissioned in rediness for sale.
Since arriving we have fully inspected this Manta in our workshop, and whilst in excellent condition a full service will be carried out together with a new water pump and timing belt to ensure that all is tip top for the new owner. Naturally a fresh MOT will also be forthcoming.
Externally this car presents beautifully with the Astro Silver paintwork having a deep glossy shine whilst the interior is simply superb and thankfully retains it’s original Philips radio cassette player with corresponding cassette holders. It also has a choke which will ensure the car cannot be stolen by anyone less than 40 years old!
The Opel Manta GT was not as prolific as its main rival the Ford Capri when new and was a relatively rare sight on Britain’s roads, which makes finding this superb low mileage car a real treat and unlikley to ever be repeated.
Being so original this Manta offers its next owner a unique opportunity to be transported back to 1984, whilst enjoying what can only be considered a collector quality car to cherish and enjoy. Shoulder pads and perms to the ready!
