once a common place sight on the roads of europe and today arguably the most admired and coveted
hot hatch of all. The sands of time have ensured that literally very few examples remain and of
those few even fewer will present correctly.
this penultimate year small bumper car is a rarity now. The big bumper models are more plentiful
but some would argue they are not as pure, the earlier mk2 car retaining much of the clean cut mk1
look, the later cars always look bloated in comparison, as such narrow bumper cars are more
collectable.

an outstanding example presented in helios blue - the colour to have back in the day and with the
15" bbs cross spoke rims of the day too. The temptation to meddle or change anything on the car
has been wholly resisted. This high degree of originality is not often found on cars nigh on 30 yrs
old. It has been kept garaged and dry by the first 2 keepers of 30 years. There is zero history of
corrosion (check vosa), the wings are original and it has never been welded.
it has an enormous history file the like of which i myself have little seen before with everything
dating right back to new. Includes historic correspondence such as vehicle warranty details and
dept. Of transport number transfers when new. Every single mot from 1991 forth, every tax disc and
two keys.. and all is immaculate, the car included.
original book pack with drivers handbook and service booklet detailing historic engine services all
present, all the glass is original and etched, all the panels are original. The interior is as
untouched and in immaculate original condition, more details below.

servicing / bills
the large folder is thick with bills as pictured and is confidence inspiring. In fine working order, recently
the engine has had a major refurbish of many components. A complete service with all belts and fluids
being changed of recent too. There is simply an overwhelming amount of information available, it would
cover a few a4 files if compiled in order. 16 stamps in the service booklet. It has very recently has
fresh oil and fluids new fuel lines and battery. It wants for nothing else.
speedo changed at 100k in 2009. 45k on the replacement clocks which were not reset.

exterior condition
an original survivor so examination of all the gaps and crevices will reveal a wholly original example.
it has been kept garaged for most if it's life. It has had paint here and there but overall, it's
absolutely stunning and will suit the fussiest of enthusiast. There are no dents bumps or scrapes and
cruciall. There is no rust that i can see, anywhere. Highly detailed and very well presented. This is
an immaculate gti.
cabin
the interior is clean fresh and bone dry and has the feel of a much younger for interior with good dash,
no sagging headlining, pristine door cards, chairs that looks like new and immaculate carpets. Next to
no wear at all to any switchgear, gear shift, steering wheel etc., in reality these interiors were
designed to absorb miles. Immaculate throughout, nothing worn damp, tatty or broken, this is show worthy.
i spoke with a previous keeper who bought this gti from the old chap who owned it from new for some
20 years. These chairs are original and have actually never been sat on, that's why it still looks like new.
alloys/ tyres
matching new khumo tyres all round fitted last week with clean rims that have a lovely finish. The bbs
alloys set the car apart, rarely seen now. They have an appeal all of their own. Tyres (perished,
cracked) was the only advise on the most recent mot. With the new tyres now it has a clean bill of
health.
the drive
it sits perfectly and rides, with no clunks or knocks just a solid firm and well absorbed drive. Having
owned a few i can comment that all old engines drive differently. This one is really fast, don't ask me
why, it just fly's compared to all the other ones i have driven. It's all totally stock but it's really
well tuned and has lots of torque in any gear at any time.
this is an all systems go car ready to be enjoyed when the mood and the weather allows. The car moves as
one whole solid piece, perhaps even better than i remember reaffirming that subsequent generations have
robbed the gti of its dynamic feel and driver enjoyment. So if you want practicality, performance and
strength in one affordable package, few cars will deliver like the mk2 gti and is easily the most
practical and sensible everyday modern classic in its price range.
