The Honda CB750 is well know to all bikers as a land mark model with superb build quality, performance and style that shook the motorcycle world when it was launched in 1969. It is no wonder that they have gone on to be one of the most coveted bike models in the collectors market.
As with so many collected items, it is the early, rare examples that achieve the highest values and the Honda is no exception. The famous ‘sandcast’ bikes that came out initially were done to beat Kawasaki to the release of their 4-cylinder air cooled, four stroke and just 7, 400 of these were made. Sandcast blocks however become porous and fragile with age so they were quickly upgraded to ‘diecast’ production and they made another 37, 000 ‘diecast’ bikes before the end of the KO / 1st series machines in September 1970.
It is these sandcast and diecast bikes that are most sought after. The sandcast models carry a large premium but if you want to ride and use your bike as well as look at it, then the diecast model is the one for you. A great ride and a great investment.
This early diecast bike was delivered new to America, which is where most of them went, and it remained there until it was brought to the UK in 2010. It arrived on these shores with just 8, 000 original miles but cosmetically it was a little tired so it was gone through and lifted. This included a repaint, the wheel rims and mudguards were re-chrome plated, the seat and side tanks were replaced (original parts kept and come with the bike), new pipes put on as the old ones were beyond repair and a new wiring loom for reliability. The engine was in good order due to the low mileage so it was serviced, new tappets put in, new points, carburetors cleaned and serviced and it was soon running sweetly.
It now looks and performs superbly, while retaining all the lovely interesting parts like the double cut front mudguard, early crinkle fuel tank, switch gear/ levelers, etc. It is no surprise that it has remained with the same custodian for the past 10+ years where it has given sterling service as he has used it regularly although the bike is still only showing 14, 000 miles from new!
This ultra low mileage, first year, excellent condition and well riding bike is available for immediate inspection. It is the perfect bike for riding and yet also being a collectable of the highest caliber.
