Description
According to the factory papers YYO13H was signed off from the Jensen production line on the 11th of August 1969 and duly dispatched to London’s Jensen dealer, Charles Follett of Hamstead.
This Interceptor is an original matching numbers car which originally left the factory as a Mk 2 but received some period alterations to Mark 3 specification including the fitment a G series 6. 3 Litre (383cu) which according to the book “Jensen Interceptor” (by expert John Tipler) is the best engine for the Interceptor.
The extensive history folder contains a wealth of service and maintenance documents which hark back to the factory’s final inspection sheet, however probably the most telling is a separate folder which gives a detailed account of the restoration which commenced in 2005.
Overseen by Simon Norris of Bromham Motor Works (formerly Airfield Motors), the restoration is one of the most thorough we have ever seen and is fully documented by a photographic record. Every invoice and bill are present and points towards a restoration carried out with a fixation on quality not cost. Speaking of costs this fabulous Interceptor has had no less than £36, 000 spent on its restoration.
The bodywork underwent a complete repaint by Tony Bnott in deep Ocean blue and a new vinyl roof was fitted whilst the bumpers were re-chromed to compliment the new gleaming coachwork. The final piece of the jigsaw were the alloy wheels, which were sent to Mike Wood for refurbishment in the correct period finish.
Mechanically the engine was completely re-built including a full rebore and hardened valve seats to allow for the use of unleaded petrol, whilst the carburetor and air filter were also upgraded. To help keep things cool under the bonnet the radiator was rebuilt and bigger, more modern electric fan units also installed and transmission subjected to an overhaul.
Southwest Auto Trimming beautifully re-trimmed the interior in leather using five full hides. Finished in soft black leather with white piping to the seats, the interior looks sumptuous and welcoming and presents with just the right amount of patina.
Rumbling to life, this Jensen sounds wonderful through its stainless-steel exhaust system and starts on the button either hot or cold, thanks to having a modern ignition system fitted. On the road she feels planted and pulls smoothly through the gears with a great turn of speed.
What could be better? Slide back the Webasto sunroof so you can hear that glorious V8, pull the selector back into Drive and aim that long fluted bonnet toward the open road in what must be one of the most iconic and beautiful British cars ever produced. YYO13H offers a truly unique opportunity to purchase a beautifully restored Interceptor with a number of sensible upgrades at a fraction of the cost to restore one to this standard today.
Before being supplied to her new owner the Interceptor will be fully inspected, serviced and furnished with a fresh MOT.
