LOT 24 - 1990 Norton F1 'JPS Rotary'

One of a mere 145 produced.
Norton Motors faced the task of building saleable road machines around their innovative and race-winning rotary engine. They produced the Norton F1 which was race-styled and finished in the John Player Specials livery of the works bikes ridden by Steve Spray and Trevor Nation. The Norton F1 in the streets ahead of its opposition in quality of its equipment; Spondon alloy beam frame, White Power ‘upside down’ forks, White Power rear shock and Brembo brakes all-round with floating discs at the front, gripped by four-pot calipers.
The F1 was a powerful and very beautiful sports machine with a menacing all-black look. Upon release, the F1 was fabulously expensive by the standard of the best comparable models £12, 700 (a Honda VFR750 cost £5, 799 at the time), costing twice as much as most of them. As a result, the F1 had a small production run, make it one of the most exclusive road bikes ever with only 145 produced.
This example was purchased from the original importer in 1991 and has been sparely used by the curators of the museum ever since. This bike featured on the cover and within the edition 17 if the Streetbike magazine in 1992. Accompanying the sale is a large provenance file including correspondence, export and import approvals, original instructions for commissioning booklet, large blueprint copy of the wiring diagram and original sales brochure.
Today, this last ‘proper’ Norton has become one of the most sought-after British motorcycles of recent times. Odometer displaying a mere 2, 117 km’s covered.
