Mechanically spot on - been up and down the motorway in this with a full load. Pulls like a train and sounds great with the legendary 5 pot burble.

Purchased a few weeks back. Needed something reliable and roomy for a house clear-out and renovation, and also to pick up an old engine from Manchester.

Failed MOT today: power steering fluid leak, 1 x rear tyre and 1 x number plate bulb.

Starts first time with no struggling. Idles fine. Does not overheat - the temperature sits in the middle. 138k miles, so it has only just run in! Does not use any excess oil or coolant.

B5254S / 2435cc / 5 Cylinder / 170 BHP / 220 Nm Torque / 35+ MPG

The engine still has its power there, and it accelerates freely throughout the rev range. Had a few of these over the years and this by far feels one of the more livelier ones. Not too bad on fuel either, will return over 35 MPG on a long, steady run. EML light on, but does not affect the car in anyway.

The car does appear to have been looked after in its life, and this is apparent how with well it drives.

5 speed manual gearbox is very smooth and changes gear as they should. Clutch is fine and all ratios engage correctly. Pulls well in every gear.

The suspension has the supple V70 ride, which makes ease of all uneven road surfaces. No knocks or bangs. Power steering is not working - the steering feels very heavy. It leaks fluid and that's why it failed the MOT. Car can still be driven and when being driven, it is fine. It does feel heavier when trying to park the car, manoeuvring, etc. You can top up the ATF fluid and then the power steering will work fine, but gets heavy again when it goes empty.

Brakes stop the car fine, with no major shuddering or grinding. Previous owner fitted new discs and pads earlier this year.

Two new front tyres, one decent rear one. The other needs replacing for MOT.

The V70 is best described as a work horse: it has the usual marks, blemishes and stone chips as to be expected for the year and mileage. The bumpers have a few scuffs scruffs and on the corners. Paint had peeled off in places on the rear bumper and wing mirrors. Front bumper is missing the OSF bumper insert. There are some marks on a few of the panels. No visible rust or rot, and nothing major on the last MOT advisory either - so it seems solid underneath. One tiny bubble below the rear number plate. Overall it is still a good looking, boxy old Swede.

The interior is in good order and has worn the age pretty well. All solid and in one piece. No sagging. Would benefit from a leather feed. Driver's seat bolster has the usual wear and the stitching has come away to show the foam. The seats still feel tight and strong. They are very comfortable and supportive, which is typical of these old Volvos. Front arm rest is heavily worn.

Pretty much everything still works as it should. The heaters are amazing. Front wipers, windscreen washers, all lights, horn, trip computer, etc all operate correctly. Stereo powers on, but does not work? Rear wiper does not work. Bonnet latch has jammed on the right side so bonnet can only be opened. by one person pulling the latch and the other person pulling the bonnet up.

This is a reliable old workhorse which will do pretty much anything you ask of it. You just get in, start it and go where you need to. Not new or perfect, but it is a 'turn key' car which will complete every journey.

These things are becoming more and more sought after, and going the same way the old 940s are. Mileage is irrelevant on old Volvos like this - they drive the same at 100k miles as they do with 300k miles on them. My last one had 176k miles on it, and being honest, this drives better and has a raspier engine. No-nonsense tanks which just go on forever. People who have them tend to keep them for many years and are reluctant to let them go.

Selling as Spares or Repairs / Project and as an MOT failure. MOT is valid until December 6th, so can be driven away or on trade plates after that date.

Reliable car which will get you where you need to go. Easy repair to get back on the road. I've got a Mercedes now, so this is no longer required.

Comes with: 2 x Keys, 3 x Thule Roof Bar Keys, MOT Certificate, MOT History Printout, Volvo Folder, V70 User Manuals
