Oldsmobile unveiled the Cutlass model in 1961 as their top trim level on the F-85 line. It started life as a unibody compact car to compete with the Chevrolet Corvair that GM put out in 1960. Things would quickly changed for the Cutlass however as it spawned into multiple variants including the Cutlass Supreme and the popular 4-4-2 muscle car.
- It even led to what would become the legendary Hurst/ Olds in the late 60s. The 5th generation of Cutlass started in 1978 and with most vehicles of this era saw a large downsize. They were very similar to the Buick Century but still wore their dual grills like previous Cutlass designs. The lineup for 1978 introduced a variety of body styles including the fastback Salon Brougham body style like you see here.
- The body is all rust free with no dents or signs of previous damage. It is coated in a nice two tone Beige with Gold and has pinstripes running the length of both sides separating the two colors. It features nice chrome bumpers, stainless body and window trim, along with dual painted sport mirrors on each side. The tinted glass is good throughout with no issues. The Oldsmobile sport wheels have beauty rings and are painted to match the lighter body color. They have new 14 inch thin white wall Hankook tires.
These cars could be ordered with a variety of different engines and this one has the 260 V8.
-Everything under the hood has a clean stock look and it is topped of with the Black single snorkel air cleaner.
- The transmission is its original automatic that shifts smoothly and sends power back to the original rear end. Power steering and power brakes make the car a very comfortable cruiser.
- The car does have air conditioning as well but it isn't blowing cold and needs to be charged. Everything else on the car is working properly with no problems.
- The interior is done in Brown and is in excellent condition. When you start checking out these older survivor style cars the carpet, headliners, etc are all good places to look to see how well the vehicle has been maintained. Well this one has clearly been well cared for since new based on the condition of those various items.
- It has a split bench front seat with center armrest and 3 point shoulder seat belts. The dash has all of its original trim, knobs, switches, gauges, and an AM/ FM radio all of which are working.
- The original steering wheel is in great shape and tops off the tilt column.
- The trunk has Black carpeting and even the original Jack instructions sticker is fixed to the bottom of the deck lid.
This unique classic is a great driver and there likely aren't many of these still around in this level of condition. It comes with its original shop manuals and a good clean title.
