the car is fundamentally in original condition, fitted with the 2. 25 4-cylinder petrol engine which starts easily and is very smooth running.
4-speed manual gearbox, with original fairey overdrive unit.
safari roof fitted as standard on the county.
modifications:
parabolic springs fitted all round, and extended travel dampers. These were fitted for ride comfort rather than off-road purposes.
galvanised full-length roof rack fitted with ladder
original carburettor has been replaced with weber unit and oil bath air filter replaced for a pancake air filter (a common modification on these cars)
the original fairey free-wheel hubs have been replaced by avm free-wheel hubs
led brake lights fitted (in original series iii housings).
the car was in use regularly, consistently passing mots until 2018. the principle issue being around the chassis, much like many series land rovers. The vehicle has already had a rear cross-member replaced during our ownership, and the majority of the failures were related to the front end. On closer inspection, it didn’t make sense to just patch it again. The intention had been to buy a galvanised chassis and move the body across, however other classic car commitments took priority and rather than the vehicle sitting any longer it made sense for it to go to a better home.
we have the replacement chassis sections required to get the vehicle through mot, and also footwell replacement panels for the bulkhead as these are also in need of attention.
the car has all the original key components for a relatively straightforward restoration project, but needs some love, attention and time which is currently lacking.
