Description
Launched in 1971, the R107 Mercedes SL replaced the legendary Pagoda SL. This new model offered increased road holding, refinements and most importantly a V8 engine. In 1980 two new engines were launched, the 3. 8 V8 replaced the outgoing 3. 5 and the range topping 4. 5 was replaced with a 240 BHP 5. 0 V8. Driven through a new 4 speed auto box it was capable of 140 MPH. With independent suspension, power disc brakes front and rear, power steering and amazing high speed stability these cars still feel as good to drive today as they did 50 years ago.
This amazing example was supplied new by Greyfords Mercedes-Benz in on November 1st 1980 to a Doctor who was living in London at the time. After buying the SL he began working abroad more hence the car was used very infrequently. In 1998 it passed to its second owner with just 4, 354 miles on the clock. The next ownership change was in 2006 at 6, 202 miles. The last owner bought the car in June 2010 with 9, 997 miles showing. To say that this car has had an easy and pampered life would be an understatement. It is immaculate, completely devoid of rust, wear or tear.
The car was ordered from new with electric windows, Tempomat cruise control, rear seats, heat insulated glass, headlamp wipers, limited slip differential, brown soft top. When the last owner acquired the car he had air conditioning fitted to original Mercedes specification with correct switch gear inside.
There is a documented service history with entries in the book at 909 miles, 2, 881 miles, 4, 104 miles, 6, 683 miles and 10, 098 miles. Despite being exempt, the car will come supplied with 12 months MOT and a fresh service. It goes without saying that this is one of the lowest mileage R107 available. The cost of restoring one of these cars can escalate very quickly, this car is ready to turn the key and be driven.
