For sale is a very original 3 owners from new 1955 mk1 Ford Consul in Winchester Blue. This car has stared in an episode of a 1998 documentary on classic British cars narrated by John Peel. Please see the link below. I am the 3rd owner from New. It has a full history file going back to its showroom days. I reiterate, it has a full history file going back to its showroom days 67 years ago. The original owner had the car from 1955 until his death in 2016, having ordered from the brochure with Ford paying extra for its Echo radio (still in the car albeit not wired in at present) and for the optional large segregated rear indicators advertised at the time as a "safety feature" over the usual integral indicator/ rear light set up or the often seen trafficator arms, (these were discontinued on consuls in 1951 but still seen on newly registered UK cars in diminishing numbers until as late as 1965, I believe the Morris Minor was the last to drop these in favour of flashing indicator bulbs). I have a restoration file of the original owner and a first in show photograph it won after this.
This car is exceptionally original, has a history file that includes its typewritten bill of sale, showroom brochures, period drive tests, original tax disc and each tax disc thereafter until it was taken off the road in 1987, even unbelievably the original "running in please pass" sign. It has its original engine, gearbox, panels, headlining windows interior etc. It even has its original floor mats.
The second owner never drove this car. I bought it from his estate in 2021.
I have driven this to shows and it has gathered much interest due to its history, its originality and its rarity.
The video link below is something I recommend you watch. You will see its original owner John driving the car around the grounds of Weston Park and discussing it, (it doesn't explicitly say Weston Park, but I am local to it and know it well, coincidentally, so must John its first owner of 61 years as he lived in the local area and the car is a Wolverhampton registration, so it has never been owned or based outside of the small 15 mile radius in its 67 year history). You will see him showing some of the history file I discuss above including showing the please pass sign. You will see the original tax disc in the windscreen which is still there now, (unfaded as the car was undercover and unused between 1987 and 2021, but is in full working order). You will see its pristine undercarriage and you will see archive home video of him taking his family on trips away, picking his newborn up from the hospital in what appears to be the 60s. You will see real time warp footage.
I have bought and owned classic cars all my life and this is without exception the most special car I have ever found. It ought to be in a museum with the video on loop so it's special status can be preserved or find it's way into a private collection and preserved.
This car is in presentation a 9/ 10, it has patina, it is extremely nice but it would destroy its originality to turn this into a generic show queen with new paint and new headlining etc. Things are only original once. This is why I have done and will do nothing to it, with the exception of having had it professionally treated to protect it with a long term wax coating, which was done by a company who I will recommend to any potential new owner.
It won't allow me to post the link, so please see the last picture to see the video thumbnail and see what to type in.
Thank you
