1925 New Hudson Semi-Sport 350cc: Super vintage Flat-Tank
Starting life as a successful bicycle manufacturer, New Hudson was founded in 1903 to build motorcycles in Birmingham, initially using JAP engines. They then developed there own range of 350, 500 and 600 engines, cumulating in the famous Bert Le Back, breaking the 100 miles in an hour record for a 500cc bike in 1927 at Brooklands in Surrey. The company traded until 1932 when the depression had reduced sales and they stopped manufacturing bikes and continued trading as Girling, which still exists to this day making brake components.
This lovely example of its 350cc was in hibernation for many years and prepared for the road in the last 10 years, by her previous elderly owner. I purchased the bike in 2019 and had it examined by the VMCC and re-registered for the road having been out of use for many years and she comes with an age related plate. In addition she comes with a VMCC certificate confirming she is a 1925 Semi-Sport model, as confirmed by the clubs marque expert, Eric Fernihough.
I have used her for a few runs during lock-down, but then the mag started playing up, so was sent off for a full refurbishment and has been re-fitted to the bike recently. She is now a lovely easy starting bike and she pulls really well for a 350 and has very decent brakes and stops well too and she benefits from a new set of tyres.
I am only selling as I have a couple of other flat tankers, which get more use and I am in the market for a sporty 500cc vintage, so have decided to let her go.
She comes with dating certificate and the V5 is in my name and she comes with a spare engine as well.
