Beschreibung

This car only had three registered owners since new. It is probably because the vast majority of cars life was spent inland in dry climate and high altitude of Gauteng for 40-years, and then a further 6-years of semi-arid Klein Karoo region with the 2nd-owner that she is so rust-free.
She is an early “year-one” 1969 production example of the Ford CAPRI Mk1 Coupe has its original matching numbers and engine. The car has range-topping specification of the GT XL-pack model with a full Black interior.
The car is an extremely rare low-production derivative as the 3000cc Essex V6 was also optioned by FORD of South Africa with the “C4” Auto transmission and Atlas 9" Rear Axle – probably they required Auto option for their unique Perana V8 special builds to Basil Green. A CAPRI expert will know it wasn't until 1974 when FORD EUROPE launched CAPRI Mk2 included an optional C3 Auto offering. I’ve been selling cars in South Africa for 30-years, and this is the best original Mk1 Auto that I’ve seen for 30-years - let alone one that escaped the boy-racer modifiers.
This 52-year old car was purchased in a rust-free and accident-free body and under-carriage condition – but with one very minor dent and a couple of paint stone chips or defects – but certainly has never seen a welding torch or similar. However, due to the “then” buyer’s wishes about a few issues the car underwent a total restoration with the objective of Concourse show car condition when completed.
This car has already had a total strip-down, glass-out respray in original ERMINE WHITE. The bumpers were cleaned, polished and inner surfaces painted with an anti-rust treatment. The Black Vinyl Roof had a small tear was removed for the respray process - new roof material will replace same. Similarly, the interior seats came with a few minor tears to upholstery, carpet wear, instrument dash damage, and rear parcel shelf cut-damage for huge speakers – detail with be supplied. The car is about to have new correct pattern; seat upholstery, carpeting, dash fascia panel, kick-panels, and rear parcel shelf. The door-cards and headlining are left in-situ as still good.
The entire under-bonnet area was stripped out for respray. The engine was stripped, inspected, and rebuilt with new core plugs, seals and gaskets, and other OEM parts as required. I cannot verify the odometer as it’s a 5-digit reading, but the engine bores were still standard when stripped which tends to confirm 127, 000 miles from new. The V6 heads are now converted for E5 unleaded petrol. All ancillaries; Starter motor, Alternator, Water pump, Thermostat, Radiator, Fan, etc., overhauled or replaced. The carburettor rebuilt with correct air-filter box. The entire wiring harness under-bonnet, interior and boot had been “bodged” - so tidied and replaced as required. The wrong V8 electronic ignitor was removed and Ignition returned to standard; Rev-counter replaced and serviced like all other instruments and senders, new Distributor parts, Coil, Plugs and HT-leads, plus all new filters, hoses, belts, fuel lines and hydraulic lines.
The auto transmission was serviced – new fluid and filter and seals, prop-shaft balanced with new UJ’s and rubber Centre carrier, Rear differential/ back axle stripped and rebuilt with new bearings, seals etc., fuel tank removed serviced and repainted – float & sender repaired, new Fuel pump. The entire suspension and braking system was stripped and cleaned but found to have been very recently overhauled by previous owner. Finally entire underbody was re-cleaned again, checked and then hand-painted with expensive WURTH Anti-Rust treatment – then new stainless steel “big-bore” exhaust made-up from manifold to tail-pipes and installed.
The professional restorer of FORD’s only – a personal collection of 12 cars – ensured a detailed and meticulous restoration with attention to detail over two years. Then upon being completed with only minor outstanding parts - due to halted but previously agreed costs - the car has been dry stored for some 30 months. I’m now mandated to re-sell the car. I will handle the logistics and have the remaining work completed at the same restorer – this involves the completion of weather-seals to doors, bonnet rubber seal and rebound rubbers, one small external part to the transmission, windscreen wash-wipe kit, new headlights and rear lights, and dash switch refurbishment. The finishing jobs will take 14-days from the date of parts arrival. Then fully restored to a very high “CONCOURSE” level of finish without issues. New owner to decide if new tyres should be fitted before shipping, or me finding and restoring the original pressed-steel Rostyle 13” 5J wheels here in the UK – or I can fit period correct 15” 6J MINILITE Alloys and decent rubber when the car arrives.
The purchase price quoted is for the fully restored car, complete with Export clearance, Single Car Container Shipment to London Gateway, In-Transit Insurance, UK Clearing & Collection charges, HMRC Import Tax, unpacking, cleaning, MoT, DVLA Registration, period Number Plates, and delivery to your home address if within 100-miles of CARS EUROPE UK depot in Chedburgh, Suffolk. I’ve used their services since 2008 - further away in UK at additional cost. Ask for adjusted costs for other countries. Purchase terms can be discussed but price has no wiggle-room. Thank you for looking.
