Surely one of the best, and one of the earliest, examples of this 1970’s classic, in single-family ownership for a majority of its life and now presented in a condition worthy of any collector.
Due to overwhelming demand from the USA, home-market sales did not commence until May 1976 with this example being first registered in July 1976, to a Mr Dove of Ropsley in Lincolnshire, who covered just 2500 careful miles before selling to his step brother-in-law, Mr Brown, who increased the mileage to 29000 miles before selling to the original owners’ daughter-in-law, Mrs Dove, in 1986 for £750. For insurance reasons, ownership was transferred to her husband, Mr Dove, in September 2014. Eventually, in March 2016, OFW 222P left its original family of ownership when it was sold to marque specialist Jonathan Harley. Following a programme of improvements by Mr Harley’s company, Delacourt Motors, the car was sold to its current enthusiast owner in May 2019 and is now only available due to a change in motoring direction. Being from the first couple of months’ production, OFW 222P must be one of the earliest and best preserved examples of less than 400 still on UK roads and one of a few left to have been built at the Speke, Merseyside, factory, before production was moved to Canley near Coventry.
Superbly repainted in its’ original Pimento Red with a black cord cloth interior, this TR7 is in an absolute time-capsule condition, with just 44600 recorded and proven miles. A comprehensive paperwork portfolio is present, including the original owners pack, containing the handbook, Supercover window hanger, Passport to Service booklet and the Philips MCC radio/ cassette instruction manual (this unit is still in the vehicle and just about in working order). A selection of previous MOT certificates, dating back to 1986, helps to prove the very low mileage further. Also accompanying the vehicle is a recently acquired British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate confirming its’ home market status and the specification in which it was originally ordered.
Wanting for nothing and ready to enjoy, recent improvement work has been undertaken including a new battery, a gearbox refresh and a comprehensive service.
