A virtually rust free California GTV and an ideal Winter project needing a repaint.
The body on this Californian car is particularly noteworthy and one of the best I've seen. It cannot be overstated how important the bodywork condition is, as restoring rusted 105's can empty your wallet very quickly and £20-30k can be spent at the restorers. I know I've done it. That problem doesn't exist with this car.
I don't think the car has ever been apart which is a bonus. The factory applied stonechip on the underside is still in place which is very unusual. Every panel when tapped has the reassuring sound of metal with no filler anywhere. The story behind the car is that it was imported by an Italian restaurant owner in the UK but it was never registered. He sold it to John, a retired pilot, who bought it to restore but left it in a dry barn for 10 years and I bought it from him.
There's and old MOT from June 20th 2012 where the car was MOT'd on it's chassis number so we know it's only done 40 miles in that time on top of the 31, 444 on the clock. In storage it was parked close to a blockwork wall so there are some light blebs on the door bottom and cills on the right hand side, moisture has created a small localised hole in the spare wheel well but that's pretty much it.
The engine is strong, the gearbox is smooth and the clutch works well. I've had the car serviced and the fluids all changed. My mechanic has removed the Spica fuel injection system and fitted a rebuilt pair of Dellorto DHLA 40 carburettors, the fuel injection system can be kept with the car as it was working but had a low pressure warning. Wes Ingram in the USA is the go to guy for repairing these if you wanted to refit at a later date. The paint was originally Faggio a dark burgundy colour and I've purchased and refitted original wheels which are fitted with tyres with pretty much full tread depth. The interior has been previously retrimmed in black vinyl with yellow accents, not everybody's taste but clean, tidy and functional. The cosmetic items needing doing are; fixing the door handle release mechanisms, the paintwork as mentioned, secondary indicator lights and some other bits and pieces. I've fitted a new radiator and fuel tank.
The car was manufactured in Italy and exported to the USA this car was manufatctured in Italy on 11th September 1974 and sold on 16th September 1974 and was Faggio with natural leather interior. This is stated on the Certificato Di Origine which I obtained from Centro Documentazione in Milan. I also have the Alfa romeo dating letter from Ken Carrington at the AR Owners Club.
The car is now registered on an age related plate LFM 804N.
