Description

Here for sale is a highly original series 2 petrol Land Rover having one owner from brand new in 1960 to late last year (2021).

This Land Rover has its original engine, gearbox , chassis, radiator, Lucas electrical equipment, smiths heater, axles, Solex carburettor, swan neck exhaust and much more.

All numbers on chassis, engine , gearbox and radiator are correct to this Land Rover.

The chassis is in very good condition and is the original with its vin number visiable on the right hand dumb iron.

Engine is running well considering it has been in storage for a number of years. It looks like the full original ignition system is in place with the acorn connectors and Lodge spark plug caps.

This example has 90% of all its original paint from factory. It’s a non-restored example which is just as well. I do believe the mileage showing of 49K is correct although I do not have any history to back this up.

The bulkhead is strong and correct but will need localised repair (new galvanised repair sections included in sale). The passenger footwell has been removed by its original owner - he never replaced it and passed away. There is a new galvanised footwell ready to be let in included in the sale.

Original leaf springs with the rears still wearing their factory boots.

Present are the original jack and jack handle along with starting handle.

From factory (January 1960) this remains a “rag top” variant.

The number plates are the original to the time it was first registered (Hereford). It was supplied by W Holloway & Sons of Hereford.

Chassis No:- the details below
Engine No:- the details below
Gearbox No:- the details below
Radiator No:- 11M 59

Last tax disc issued in Hay-On-Wye on January 2003.

I offer this original series 2 for a basic restoration to a proper Land Rover collector/ enthusiast.
The approach to getting it back on the road should be methodical and not involve silly sums of money! It’s more time and spanners etc.

The clutch system (hydraulics) will need linking up. The same with the braking system and handbrake.

The original owner had started unbolting this Land Rover to clean and semi-restore but in that time he was elderly and passed away hence it was never completed.
The props are off but with the vehicle needing to be put back on. There’s Containers with nuts and bolts for the seat squab, floor pans etc ..... basically everything is there ready to be dealt with.

I have two older style log books (from the 1990s) plus a current up-to-date one in my name, I’m the second owner.

I’m not in a hurry to sell but will gladly do a deal with the right person.

Delivery to any U. K. destination I can easily sort if this is required.
