The Vauxhall Astra Coupe dominated the BTCC from 2001 to 2004 winning the Drivers, Manufacturers and Team championships for 4 consecutive years, making it arguably the most successful BTCC car of all time The cars were built and run by Triple Eight Race Engineering. This is chassis No 1 originally raced under the Egg-Sport banner. The car has undergone a nut and bolt rebuild and is now ready to compete in classic touring car events. The car is depicted on the Touring Car Register website along with a brief history.
The shell has been restored by Huddersfield College Engineering Department and re-sprayed in Vauxhall/ VXR colours and retains all its period features including the Triple Eight chassis plate.
All lifing components either new or returned to zero hours.
Suspension: New Triple Eight Front uprights with freshly rebuilt and dynoed period Penske 3-way 8760 dampers and Triple Eight adjustable top mounts. Rear Triple Eight BTCC axle assembly with rebuilt 3 way Penske dampers. Triple Eight Power Steering Rack.
Brakes: New BTCC spec AP 6 pot callipers and vented discs at the front and AP 2 pot callipers and solid discs at the rear. New AP floor mount pedal box with new master cylinders.
Engine: New build zero hours engine to original Sodemo Spec. New Sodemo crank, rods, forged pistons, BTCC spec cams and a light weight flywheel with AP twin plate clutch. Original carbon fibre inlet manifold, air box and throttle assembly. Triple Eight exhaust manifold and exhaust system. Engine management via TOCA EFI Euro 6 ECU sequential ignition and injection.
Transmission: Re-built Xtrac 6 speed sequential gearbox and LSD. AP Twin Plate Carbon/ Carbon clutch and concentric release bearing.
Wheels: Are original Team Dynamics 17” centre mount/ single nut - fitted Dunlop 17” 235/ 610 slicks and wets
An original works spec centre console and wiring loom has been installed but with a dash upgrade to a D2 dash and logger.
The car is currently undergoing final commissioning ready for the new season and prospective buyers will have the opportunity to purchase spares for the car.
A DAF LF 45 170 Transporter/ 4 berth motorhome is also for sale by separate negotiation.
