Description
Possibly one of the finest executive saloons ever built by Mercedes, the W124 is without doubt a truly great, modern classic. This one comes in rare Bornite Metallic and has the bulletproof 3. 0 straight six petrol engine; silky smooth and wonderfully comforting on long road trips and keeps up with modern traffic with ease.
Whilst it has benefitted from recent subtle modifications, the overall condition is exceptionally original and a delight to own and drive. Upgraded H&R suspension to give it a Sportline stance, rare and genuine refurbished AMG staggered 17" alloys with new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres and genuine Mercedes Benz front, rear and side clear lenses, whilst the engine has had a thorough service with new oil and filters, sump clean and new gaskets.
Inside, the hard wearing leather is in wonderfully good condition, a correct vintage wooden Victor steering wheel has been added together with a genuine Mercedes walnut gearknob and the stereo has been upgraded to a Blaupunkt unit with USB / Aux / Bluetooth and model specific Audiocircle speakers.
Everything works perfectly, from the large, silent sunroof, to the windows and Air Conditioning. It drives silently and smoothly, with no rattles, the gear change is also nice and smooth.
As far as I can tell, the rich Bornite Metallic paintwork is original, it has some small areas of bubbling in the regular areas, but its previous owner had the intelligence to coat the inner wings with grease to stop further corrosion. Whilst there's an argument to do a little cosmetic surgery, I prefer to leave it as original as possible until it becomes necessary.
MOT history is good with a high PASS rate besides some headlight adjustment failure a few years ago. The instrument cluster was changed for a new unit at 74, 000 miles and is now reading 51, 000 so actual milage is 125, 000 with a full service history, only 5 previous owners and a clearly pampered life.
These classic Mercedes are truly wonderful cars to own and this one is a rare, good example with the right modifications to give it a great look.
