the range rover p38 was the byword in luxury, quality and all around capability when launched back in 1994. the p38 range rover was a huge upgrade and change from its predecessor, the range rover classic. The range rover was unlike anything in its class. Featuring the widest variety of powertrains and specification levels, there was nothing on the road quite like a range rover. The same level of exclusivity remains today. Land rover did everything possible to make the p38 range rover one of the most refined and capable cars of its day, and they succeeded. With an all new air suspension system, facelift design, engines and interior, the range rover p38 was leaps and bounds ahead of the range rover classic in every way. In return, the range rover p38 secured the title as being "the most refined, capable, luxurious and go anywhere" cars in the world.
in the 2001 model year, land rover produced many variants of the p38 range rover. These vehicles consisted of the: Bordeaux, vogue, vogue se, se, hse and many other special editions. Our example is the very highly specified "hse" variant, where apparently there is only around 270 on road & registered examples left. Our example was registered on the 1st march 2001 and had a sticker price of upwards of £60, 000. 00 when new. It was specified with all the bells and whistles offered for the "hse" variant, which range from the: 18" hurricane alloys, lightstone leather upholstered interior, beluga black metallic exterior (with colour coded bumpers), cruise control, ice control steering wheel + much more. Today, our range rover would translate to approximately a £100, 000. 00 with options & it is quite easy to see why.
in terms of paintwork, land rover had warranted an extremely restricted pallete for the p38 range rover. In the 2001 model year, there was only 14 available colours. These also include the special edition colours that were not available on the "hse" variants. Our example is featured in one of the more rarer colours available, "java black". in our opinion, this colour is definitely one of the most exclusive options available at the time, as they also came with additional colour coding to the: Bumpers, sills, skirts and door mirrors. This gives it quite a timeless and less rugged design, which land rover is usually recognised for. The "hse" was offered with: Hurricane, comet, lightning, pro-sport and triple sport alloys. Our example was optioned with the 18" hurricane alloys, which we noticed was certainly one of the most popular choices across the board. To further contrast the the black exterior, our example offers a complete leather interior, which comes in the "lightstone" option with cream carpeting throughout the entire vehicle. Furthermore, our range rover also has the walnut trim package. Again, this trim runs throughout the entire vehicle. More specifically on the door cards and along the main dashboard. These subtle details, made it very easy to identify the "hse" as a highly specified variant.
our range rover comes with lots of paperwork, full service history from new, bills/ receipts and an mot until february 2023. the range rovers history, provides confidence and trust in the reliability of the vehicle. The complicated eas (electronic air suspension) system is no longer an issue as it has been converted to coil spring suspension. Furthermore. The range rover has just received a full body machine polish at great cost.
all of the optioned features in our range rover seem to be working great. These options consist of: Climate control, cd multichanger, electric windows, electric seats and the 12 speaker harmon/ kardon sound system. Moreover, our range rover does slighty suffer from a bad headlining. Nonetheless, all of the electrics seem to be in fine working order. We have tested all windows, sunroof, lights etc. And it is all working.
nonetheless, our range rover does have some age related niggles. Starting with the exterior, there is nothing of concern here, just the obvious age related blemishes. None of the issues present are of major concern to the range rover and can be easily seen to by the new owner.
